Sunday Column - Government rejects LTTE's unilateral ceasefire

Cornered Tigers want a respite

The REMAINING Tigers are holed up in a small bushy area in a corner of Vellamullivaikkal. Knowing full well that they are close to being eliminated, they have declared a unilateral ceasefire to give themselves a chance to flee either to the Mullaitivu jungles or out of Sri Lanka. They are also attempting to fool the world into thinking that they are concerned for the "plight" of civilians. They are specifically trying to show off to the UN official John Holmes who is currently in Sri Lanka that the LTTE has a human side. However, they are oblivious to the fact that the whole world has been shown footage of them firing at civilians. As soon as the Tigers declared their ceasefire through their TINA outlet - Tamilnet, the Government immeadiately rejected it through an announcement made by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Current estimates put the Tiger strength at around 200 hardcore cadres and around 2,000 civilian militia, a human shield numbering about 15,000 surrounds them. However, these 15,000 civilians are willingly staying with the LTTE, the shield consists of Mahaveer families who are die-hard LTTE supporters. Mahaveer or not, these are civilians and hence the SLA is proceeding with caution into the remaining NFZ area. If we attack the NFZ without the concern for civilian casualties, the operations may come to an abrupt end due to severe international pressure, hence the current low intensity battles is just right. The Mahaveer families are misguided and brainwashed souls, they are hoping for a BJP victory in the Indian Polls. They believe a BJP led government would militarily intervene in Sri Lanka and give them Eelam, the fat and old former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister cum retired melodramatic B movie actress Jayalalitha Jayaram has made statements to this effect. The decrepit and senile current Chief Minister Karunanidhi has also made statements in support of the LTTE. Both statements are seen as vote grabbing ploys. Delhi has dismissed the statements made by these two political jokers. Delhi is keen not to see dangerous precedents set, if this continues they might have politicians making statements in support of Al Qaeda and Taleban to curry favour with sections of the Muslim voter base, moves which will upset the BPO partners and hardline Hindu nationalists.

The Indians conclude their show of face trip

India's Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan have concluded a visit to the Island. The objective of their surprise visit was shrouded in msytery and the MOD maintains a veil of secrecy around the outcomes. However, we can set minds of our readers at ease by stating that the visit was NOT intended to request the GoSL to stop ongoing operations. The Indians did request a media blackout on ongoing operations so as not to upset the vast uneducated Tamil Nadu voter base. Therefore, there have been tremendous successes in the battle front which EFT cannot reveal. Secretly, the Indians want the LTTE to perish, the Congress led Government has no sympathy with the LTTE.

To satifsy the Sri Lankan voter base, the MOD has revealed the capture of Valayarmadam and thrwating of a Sea Tiger attack, SLAF operations are getting zero publicity. There is a lot more going on! Just be patient.

The Governement of Srilanka is willing to declare a ceasfire if LTTE is laying down its arms and surrender as re quested by UN,EU and the Governements of US & India owing to the deteriarating himanitarian grounds" would be an Ideal statement for the Unilatera ceasfire.

------------------
Yeah, we should word things like this.

----------------
But, Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona said it is an "incredibly unbelievable joke".

"Who will take them seriously when they are down on their knees and then announce a ceasefire," he said

--------------------
PK shouldn't say things like the above. It needs to be well balance.

Act like the cease fire means laying down arms. Just say all the tigers who have ceased fire, can come to the government controlled areas, and we would be rehabilitating them (Or what ever that would not piss IC off) for the next few days till we finish our operations.

GSL better stick to their policy regarding CFAs. The recipe should be;

1. Remove the human shield
2. Lay down arms
3. Surrender to SLA

4. Rehabilitation for law level misguided, brainwashed cadres
5. Legal action against top level cadres (NO amnesty)

6. Withdrawing the demand for separate country must be an automatic pre-condition before any kind of talks.

Single,

What you say is somewhat incoherent with the strategy of this government and how they acted in the past. Are you saying that GR's talk about no surrender to a third party is just a facade for an elaborate drama? Why do we just keep announcing things at the G-spot than going forward annihilating the rest. I don't think that we did such waiting ever only to let LTTE leader to escape. This is highly incoherent.

Sam Perera said...

This is what you say in DW at April 27, 2009 2:14 AM, Colombo Time with UID 14860768875229270383

"UK, France and Swede FM will be in Colombo by Wednesday. We need 1.5km per day to clear everything by Wednesday.

Or we can have chat with them on Wednesday (Probably Thursday after jet lag!) then can take them to IDP camps by Friday and Saturday, By that time it is likely 58, 53, 55, TF-8 may agrred to a ceasfire ):
"

and this is what you say here at 26 April 2009 22:01 GMT, i.e. 27 April 2009 03:31 Colombo Time with UID 14860768875229270383

Lanka issue: Karunanidhi begins indefinite fast

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi launched an indefinite fast on Monday morning demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri
Lanka.

He went to the memorial of C N Annadurai, his mentor, and paid floral tribute to the late leader before going on fast.

“This is my sacrifice for the Tamil cause,” the chief minister said. “Let me be another victim of Rajapaksa’s (Lanka president) genocide.”

Sitting on a wheel chair, Karunanidhi said he did not want DMK men to go on a fast. "It is my decision and I do not want others to join," he said even as a host of DMK leaders, including his daughter Kanimozhi and his grand nephew Kalanidhi Maran rushed to spot to see him. PTI reported.

LTTE offered a unilateral truce on Sunday which was summarily rejected by the Sri Lanka government. LTTE's truce offer came on a day when the Lankan forces captured the strategic Vlayarmadam area and encircled the remaining 6 sq km strip of land where Prabhakaran and his top aides are believed to be holed up in. The LTTE said the "suffering inflicted on our people by the Sri Lankan armed forces in violation of all international humanitarian laws has now reached its peak".

On Friday, Karunanidhi had asked the Centre to snap all diplomatic relations with the island nation if it did not honour India's latest appeal for a ceasefire in the embattled northern parts. The DMK president sent a telegram to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee who on Friday made the appeal to the Mahinda Rajapaksa government to respond to the Tamil civilian problem.

Karunanidhi has been demanding a permanent ceasefire and an amicable solution to the ethnic strife within the framework of a unified Sri Lanka with minority Tamils treated on par with the Sinhalese.

Last week, the Tamil Nadu chief minister inflicted serious embarrassment on Congress by calling LTTE chief Prabhakaran a proclaimed offender in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, a "good friend".

Karunanidhi, who was speaking to a TV channel, also refused to describe the LTTE chief as a terrorist, though he faulted him for using "wrong methods". "Their goals are right, but method is wrong," he said of the LTTE, declared a terrorist organisation in India.

The Sri Lankan Tamils problem is snowballing into a major campaign issue in the run up to the May 13 Lok Sabha polls with all major opposition parties turning the spotlight on it.

Hi does any one have a rough idea of the ethnic and religious composition of parliamentarians in the two major parties?

These LTTE hunger strikers and self immolators are paid by LTTE international wing. Anyone who dies by a hunger strike or self immolation, their families are promised/paid approximately $50000.

All Tamils living abroad have to pay varying sums to LTTE. (We all know this). Every family member who attends a protest rally is given 1 or 2 weeks respite from payment. I = 3 from a family attend 3-6 weeks off. This is why the large number of protestors. They don’t care two hoots for civilians. They are only at 'work'.

Organizers of the rallies are of course in the full time employment of LTTE. They know if LTTE fails their livelihood is at a risk. Also each rally is allocated over a million USD. This is misleading at its best. Need strategies to counter this.

The master plan is to get the ealam that could not be secured by a victory, by the defeat in the war. All these are not only focused to save the fat pig but it is also to get the ealam by an international intervention. Hope the decision makers know this threat.

Cholesterol problems

Indians cook their food with a lot of Gee, which is high in poly saturated fat. Poly saturated fat leads to LDL cholesterol which could cause a large number of health related complications at certain age. Now of cause, we need to realize that Karunanidhi is in that certain age or beyond and naturally due to lack of exercise (doing nothing!), his cholesterol level is high. We can clearly observe the fact that he is overweight and naturally, he need to diet if he intends to live to see the daylight of another few years.

On the other hand, the economy of Thamilnadu is in a pathetic state. Just like the level of cholesterol in Karunanidhi’s blood, the pressure from people is rising to act, but the state government has so failed. The poverty levels are ever so high despite other certain areas of India are developing. Power cuts goes up to eight hours now. Problems such as epidemics, garbage, hunger and malnutrition were never new problems in Thamilnadu. Such issues are so common that they are so used to them there. However, due to lack of education, people can be fooled real easy so they really do not understand the truth behind their pathetic conditions.

Elections have dawned for Thamilnadu politicians while the economic problems are sky rocketing due to mismanagement of funds. What’s the solution? Divert the focus from the real problem to a pseudo problem, Sri Lankan war. That’s why Karunanidhi has gone on a hunger strike. No, not to solve the burning day today problems of Thamilnadu people. In fact I guess he wants Sri Lankan Tamils also to be in the pathetic state which Thamilnadu people are in and recognizes that Piripaharan has done quite a good job on that.

Now that Piripaharan is about to get killed, Karunanidhi goes on hunger strike. This is to achieve three main goals; it diverts Thamilnadu people’s attention from their own issues, he might want to say he tried his best to save Piripaharan and last but most, to reduce the level of blood cholesterol in his fat body.

It is probably healthy for him to go on a hunger strike, we have no problem with that. But if he thinks that will put pressure on Sri Lanka, he is gravely mistaken. No one can stop SLA from destroying LTTE and burning them down to ashes this time. No way Sir!
