EFT Plea - Warning over Swine flu

During last 24 hours, UN's World Health Organization has raised the alert over Swine flu to level five.
The Swine Flu outbreak has so far claimed 159 lives in Mexico, and started to spread all over the world rapidly.

Since incoming foreign nationals to Sri Lanka easily can be Swine flu carriers, EFT strongly plea, Sri Lankan government to possibly double check or delay the foreign nationals entering NFZ or Civilian camps to safeguard the innocent civilians / Sri Lankan forces from unwanted health issues.

End Game Nears

************************************************
Update 11:00 GMT Tue 28th April 2009

Following a meeting with Labour party MP for Ealing, West London, the LTTE flags which have been flying shamelessly in Parliament Square have been taken down as of yesterday.

According to information provided by those who were present at the meeting, Stephen Pound (MP) "learnt a more credible side to the story". He was "delighted to see the whole spectrum of ethnic communities of Sri Lanka" represented at the meeting speaking with one voice the truth surrounding the terrorist problem. There have been Sinhalese, Tamil, Burgher, Muslim, Sinhalese/Tamil mixed, Sinhalese/Tamil inter-married, white British and even a Sri Lankan Jewess at the meeting. He was particularly impressed with two Sinhalese/Tamil mixed children who accompanied their parents to the meeting. Mr Pound made references to the orderly, well behaved and decent manner in which the forum progressed. He admitted to have now been “heard with both ears”.

More information about this meeting will follow as and when made available to us.

Government suspends conventional operations

The GoSL has made an announcement via the MOD that conventional operations are over, conventional operations refer to infantry push backed by mechanised armour, artillery support, HMG fire and CAS. We can assure our readers that the cessation of conventional operations does not equal to a cessation of non conventional operations such as SF and LRRP missions. We expect the Government to make an announcement later on Tuesday or Wednesday justifying the end of routine combat operations, it will be good news for all.

What we can say for now is that SF teams have started a major push today. VP is said to be hiding in the Karayamullivaikkal area. Intel expect more and more cadres (including hardcore cadres and leaders) to surrender the closer Special Forces get to VP's location. Already 50 cadres have surrendered, what you read about and saw on TV is only the tip of the iceberg - there are many more senior leaders and hardcore cadres who have surrendered, publicity is not being given in order to protect their identities. VP is said to be changing his location from time to time as he knows that those who flee willingly provide information on his whereabouts. The remaining cadres are fighting back with light arms only, most of their heavy weapons have been captured and they have run out of ammo for the remaining heavy weapons.

The GoSL is bent on capturing or killing VP, that objective has not changed and will not change no matter what the international community or political jokers in Tamil Nadu say or do.

The SBS of the SLN is the SLA equivalent of SF and Commandos. They are the best in the Navy, they have joined in the operations. Some Naval equipment are being moved towards the South East so that we can safe guard the sea area. We have captured one of the main radar centres belonging to LTTE.

We cannot divulge any more information, rumour mills are flowing and speculation is rife, some maybe proven correct....

Sunday Column - Government rejects LTTE's unilateral ceasefire

Cornered Tigers want a respite

The REMAINING Tigers are holed up in a small bushy area in a corner of Vellamullivaikkal. Knowing full well that they are close to being eliminated, they have declared a unilateral ceasefire to give themselves a chance to flee either to the Mullaitivu jungles or out of Sri Lanka. They are also attempting to fool the world into thinking that they are concerned for the "plight" of civilians. They are specifically trying to show off to the UN official John Holmes who is currently in Sri Lanka that the LTTE has a human side. However, they are oblivious to the fact that the whole world has been shown footage of them firing at civilians. As soon as the Tigers declared their ceasefire through their TINA outlet - Tamilnet, the Government immeadiately rejected it through an announcement made by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Current estimates put the Tiger strength at around 200 hardcore cadres and around 2,000 civilian militia, a human shield numbering about 15,000 surrounds them. However, these 15,000 civilians are willingly staying with the LTTE, the shield consists of Mahaveer families who are die-hard LTTE supporters. Mahaveer or not, these are civilians and hence the SLA is proceeding with caution into the remaining NFZ area. If we attack the NFZ without the concern for civilian casualties, the operations may come to an abrupt end due to severe international pressure, hence the current low intensity battles is just right. The Mahaveer families are misguided and brainwashed souls, they are hoping for a BJP victory in the Indian Polls. They believe a BJP led government would militarily intervene in Sri Lanka and give them Eelam, the fat and old former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister cum retired melodramatic B movie actress Jayalalitha Jayaram has made statements to this effect. The decrepit and senile current Chief Minister Karunanidhi has also made statements in support of the LTTE. Both statements are seen as vote grabbing ploys. Delhi has dismissed the statements made by these two political jokers. Delhi is keen not to see dangerous precedents set, if this continues they might have politicians making statements in support of Al Qaeda and Taleban to curry favour with sections of the Muslim voter base, moves which will upset the BPO partners and hardline Hindu nationalists.

The Indians conclude their show of face trip

India's Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan have concluded a visit to the Island. The objective of their surprise visit was shrouded in msytery and the MOD maintains a veil of secrecy around the outcomes. However, we can set minds of our readers at ease by stating that the visit was NOT intended to request the GoSL to stop ongoing operations. The Indians did request a media blackout on ongoing operations so as not to upset the vast uneducated Tamil Nadu voter base. Therefore, there have been tremendous successes in the battle front which EFT cannot reveal. Secretly, the Indians want the LTTE to perish, the Congress led Government has no sympathy with the LTTE.

To satifsy the Sri Lankan voter base, the MOD has revealed the capture of Valayarmadam and thrwating of a Sea Tiger attack, SLAF operations are getting zero publicity. There is a lot more going on! Just be patient.

The Indians are at it again

Political posturing by the Congress led Indian Government is at an all time high. Two months ago, the Indians issued statements and provided material support to the GoSL which led the whole world to believe that the Indians (or at least the majority of them) are fully behind Sri Lanka’s war on terror. Secretly, the Congress Kingmakers (Sonia Gandhi and Co.) are keen to see the LTTE wiped off the face of the earth. However, to keep the coalition Kingmakers happy (Karunanidhi and Co.) in light of the upcoming elections, the Indians have issued statements contradicting their earlier stance. The Indians have requested the GoSL to go easy on the LTTE at least till the elections are over, the calls to give respite to the LTTE are packaged in fake concerns for the “plight” of civilians. Political analysts believe that India has no genuine concern for the civilians' safety and well being, its just a vote grabbing exercise.

Whatever be the case, Indian intervention at this stage will not be welcome. Last time the Indians intervened, it ended in disaster and resulted in more than two decades of further suffering. We almost had VP in Operation Vadamarchchi in 1987, but this was scuttled by inedible rice and curry air drops. France and Britain are also gesturing about possible “humanitarian” intervention – they are all after the untapped uranium, titanium, phosphorous and possible hydrocarbon deposits.

But its not all bad news, we have a saviour in the shape of China. This superpower will ensure that that neither India, France, Britain or the US will violate Sri Lanka’s sovereignty. Furthemore, it will take about two weeks for foreign forces to obtain approval from their respective governments to intervene, by that time the LTTE will be pulverized.

We at EFT strongly believe that foreign governments, including India will not intervene militarily or provide refuge to VP. India especially as they don’t want to have two enemies (Sri Lanka and Pakistan) on their borders along with China breathing down their necks. The socio-economic and geo political landscape has changed dramatically from what it was when the Indians intervened in 1987. Almost all Sri Lankans want the SLDF to crush the Tigers, any attempts by the Colombo politicians to try and curtail the current operations will be frowned upon, thus the UPFA risks losing power if the offensives are stopped. The Indians will also not be forgiven by their own citizens for intervening again, they have vested economic interests in Sri Lanka, the big business (for e.g. Airtel and IOC) don't want Sri Lanka to be destabilised, its all abouy the money!

Defence observers say that the war will be over in about 7 days, fierce fighting is going on, the remaining LTTE held area is heavily mined and booby trapped. VP is cowering behind 15,000 civilians, so the operations are slower than everyone wants them to be and harvesting is difficult. All SLDF resources are focussed on killing or capturing VP and ensuring that he does not flee.

Short Update

53rd and 58th are on the verge of merging, some terror pockets remain near Ampalavanpokkanai. After flushing out the remaining terrorists, the divisions will merge and it may happen later tonight or early morning tomorrow.

Intel suggests that VP is alive and has about 15,000 civilians sorrounding him as a human shield. He is guarded by about 200 die hard hardcore cadres. The cadres are holding the civilians againts their will. The mechanised infantry brigade is expected to launch attacks on Prabha's area.

Situation is fluid, await further updates....

Breaking News @ 10 BST

Daya Master surrended to SLA.
There are few more surrended (Very high ranked with LTTE) with Daya master. Once ready for the public domain will update. So please wait ....

A few days ago we did not expect that many Civilians... Now we did not expect this many LTTE gang to turn up in our door step...

Still not ready for the public domain. We need to welcome those visitors before show their faces to world.

Updated @ 16:20 SL Time
Civillian count reached 100,000.

More details to follow...

###########
The 58th has merged with the 55th. The next stop in the unstoppable march is Valayanmadam, there the 53rd will merge too, and possibly TF8, the merger may happen tonight. Following the merger, we expect all units to march south towards VP’s bovine abode in Vellamullivaikkal. The 59th will not join the party, they will hold their defensive positions. The 59th is defending a difficult narrow front, it’s the Mullaitivu equivalent of the Jaffna MKN axis. We also expect the SBS to join in the action and support the SLA. Offensive naval manoeuvres are all set to go tomorrow. SLAF will provide CAS but may not engage in bombing missions due to the civilian factor. However, they did carry out pin point strikes yesterday using their latest arsenal of laser guided munitions. Its all systems go for the SLDF.

SF and LRRP have invaded almost all parts of the NFZ, they are running amok, its literally like a scene from the playground where big bullies are running after wimpy little boys – they are thoroughly enjoying the challenge, this is what they were waiting for.

There is some intense speculation and rumours flying around that Friday will be declared a national holiday in united Sri Lanka, as we don’t yet have any substantiated and credible information, we refuse to add fuel to the fire. BUT there is no smoke without fire, and the smoke smells like BBQ pork.

Breaking News – Jeyam confirmed dead

Intel has just confirmed that top terror leader “Colonel” Jeyam has been killed in action. Yesterday, the SLA killed number of middle rung leaders and hardcore cadres that will get announced later stage. Intel is delaying the release of news about the death of Jeyam to the free media due to the sensitive nature of the current operations, a lot of news is being censored, we only published the above after being given the go ahead. More terror leaders are dead, but the names are not being released. However, MOD has confirmed a top leader is dead without mentioning the name.

About 20,000 civilians are expected to cross over to the liberated areas today. Although credit is given to the 58th infantry, it is the SF, Commando Regiments (attached to the 58th) and LRRP that are doing the hard work. They are leading the way while the infantry units are following them and conducting clear up / mop up operations.

Closer and closer and closer

VP and top leaders hiding in Vellamullivaikkal

Military intelligence reports suggest that VP and the remaining leaders are hiding in the southern edge of the NFZ strip in a place called “Vellamullivaikkal”. Vellamullivaikal is close to the 59th division FDL, to the west of this hamlet is the lagoon and to the east is the Indian Ocean. In all other fronts the SLA has the option of moving in from the west at any time, but the scenario in the top tiger den is different. The lagoon near Vellamullivaikkal is very deep, the LTTE is fiercely defending this front and the areas are heavily mined, hence the 59th has not launched a full frontal attack on this area. However, 8 man teams are operating ahead of the 59th division FDL in order to soften up the defences. Barring a full frontal assault by the 59th that is considered high risk, the options left to the SLA are to attack Vellamullivaikal via the A35 (which may also come at a high price) or launch a sea borne attack with the support of the SLN.

60,000 civilians rescued from the tiger claws

Yesterday, the SLA’s 58th broke through the ditch cum bund bordering the east of the NFZ, resistance from the LTTE was less than expected as the SLA took them on by surprise. They were expecting the 53rd and TF8 to move in on them, but it was the 58th that surprisingly broke through. Casualties to the SLA were very low in yesterday’s fighting.

Another reason for the lower resistance was that the majority of the hardcore cadres and their leaders perished in the battles east of PTK. We were lucky in PTK east as we managed to box them in while they were preparing for a major counter attack, luck has run out for the LTTE and they made the pivotal mistake of putting all their eggs in one basket (what were they thinking!). Conservatives estimates suggest that the LTTE has around 100 hardcore cadres remaining and around 2,000 civilian militia and forcible recruits.

Around 80 infantry went MIA yesterday, after being out of touch for close to 12 hours, all of them have rejoined the main units.

GoSL trying to cope with mass exodus

Soldiers and civil servants are working round the clock to cope with the mass influx of civilians. Although the SLA were preparing for this exodus for quite some time, they were expecting around 10,000 to turn up per day, they never expected 60,000 in one day alone! There is two step registration process in place for the civilians - once when they reach the SLA and once when they reach the civil service administered welfare camps in Vavuniya. In what is reminiscent of the Berlin airlift, the SLAF has been in action and airlifted medical staff, food and emergency supplies to Mullaitivu. The SLAF is in the thick of the action.

The deadline for the LTTE to surrender has expired, 1,2,3…..!

Sunday Column - SLA makes steady progress to free hostages

Beginning of the end

The fate of LTTE as a military force has been sealed i.e., it has no fate. The SLA has been commended both locally and internationally for militarily finishing off what the FBI branded as "The World's most ruthless terrorist outfit ". Al - Qaeda launched suicide attacks on the New York Twin Towers that killed over 3,000 people, for the FBI to rank the LTTE above their public enemy number 1 means something, it means more as the SLA has finished off the LTTE while the NATO coalition forces are still fighting Al - Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Sri Lankan public over the years were apathetic to SLA offensives to liberate the Wanni, Jayasikuru being the prime example - life went on as normal in the South while the SLA were marching up the A9. The public were convinced that the LTTE were invincible as any SLA victories were soon reversed. What lacked then was the political will to back the military - major offensives were routinely halted whenever the SLA sufferred setbacks, "tactical withdrawls" and "readjustments on the FDLs" were the norms. Such was the extent of the withdrawls and readjustments that the SLA gave up Pooneryn, EPS and Mullaitivu complexes to the orders of the political leaders. The political leaders didn't have the backbone to back the military as they were afraid of loosing the voters who were insisting that the Army stop offensives to save lives. Presumably, the public had only heard of wars where there are no casualties. The sight of ambulances and buses carrying the dead and wounded on Dambulla road was enough to convince them that the war should stop as the LTTE were indomitable.

That was then, this is now - the political and military landscape has dramatically changed FOR THE BETTER. We have a President who fully backs the military, an Army Commander who is steadfast, and a public fully behind the President and the military in wiping off terror ONCE AND FOR ALL. The President does not pander to the international community either, he backs the military push knowing full well that it will upset the donor buddies and white uncles. He even challenged the UN to exert pressure on the LTTE to stop offensives rather than asking the government to implement a longer ceasefire, the UN and the international community is lost on the fact that the LTTE has used previous ceasefires to re-group, re-arm and launch even more attacks. It also does not occur to them that it is the LTTE that is prolonging the conflict by holding civilians and not the SLA. We applaud the military and the political establishment in seeing through the strategy to wipe out terror.

Fresh offensives under way

The SLA started fresh offensives to free civilian hostages 48 hours ago. The 53rd, TF8 and 58th have launched a three pronged attack on the A35 Paranthan - Mullaitivu main road, 53rd and TF8 are nearing the bridge at Vellaimullaivaikkal, 58th is facing stiff resistance on their front. We are seeing heavy casualties as the LTTE has a small area to defend and fire is concentrated. Tiger FDLs are heavily booby trapped and mined and most of the injuries are due to AP mines. 55th are holding their positions just north of Palamattalan and conducting limited 8 man team operations, snipers are also taking out targets. The Navy is on full alert over Tiger leaders trying to flee, night time sea tiger escape missions have been effectively foiled by the Navy's SBS and RABS squadrons. The SLAF is providing CAS and surveillance assistance to the SLA, the aerial pictures and videos are proving invaluable as the SLAF and SLA are able to strike at identified targets. Surveillance is much easier now as the Tiger territory has shrunk to 17 sq kms. The MOD has stopped giving publicity to SLAF missions, reasons for which are undisclosed. Only a limited amount of battlefield news is reaching us as the current missions are extra secretive.

Soldiers sacrifice their lives and limbs in final push to rescue civilian hostages

(By EFT – Vanni Correspondent)
Bloody battles

Yesterday, the SLA’s 53rd and TF8 suffered heavy casualties mainly due to booby traps while trying to push through the Tiger FDL bordering the NFZ, around 50 infantrymen lost their legs - KIA figure is undisclosed. This was one of the bloodiest days in recent battles. The 58th is positioned to break through the NFZ FDL any time now.

President makes morale boosting visit to Kilinochchi

The GoSL President, Mahinda Rajapakse announced that he is fully behind the SLDFs objectives in wiping out terror. The announcement made during his visit to the former de-facto capital of the LTTE is seen as a morale boost to the SLA high rankers and foot soldiers before the final push into the non liberated territories. The President has promised to deal with international pressure until the tri-forces complete their ongoing mission of rescuing civilians forcibly held by the LTTE.

UN Special Envoy arrives in Sri Lanka

An United Nations Special Enjoy appointed by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon arrived yesterday and is expected to meet the President today. The Special Envoy met the Defence Secretary yesterday. EFT does not want to speculate on the purpose of the visit but unverified information suggests that it has something to do with an UN role in supervising the welfare of the Wanni IDPs.

Back to BAU

Not that business was ever not as usual, the New Year celebrations were a breather and an opportunity for the SLDF to celebrate their victories thus far (and of course to indulge in a bit of morale boosting activities in a modest way at this festive time). The 48 hour ceasefire is considered to be a reasonable compromise under the circumstances and it did appease some international pressure mongers. The political and military leadership are working together to work out optimum and timely strategies taking into careful consideration both military and political criteria inherent in conflicts of this nature. They are keen to address issues raised in all arenas (military, political, financial, economical, etc.) of this continuing humanitarian/military operation.

New joint ops are being carried out between the three armed forces (SLA, SLN & SLAF) targeting high profile LTTE hideouts in the NFZ. These targets include newly built sand/earth bunds and bunkers. As always, the SLDF are following a strict “Zero civilian casualty” policy.

Sri Lanka Navy is on high alert in order to prevent any top LTTE leaders escaping by sea. There were some heavy sea clashes earlier today (15-Apr) involving two stealth LTTE boats. These were designed and built with a low profile to avoid radar detection. Both craft, which tried to infiltrate to Mulathivu area were destroyed comprehensively by the SLN. Among captured weapons were a SAM and a MPMG. All terrorists onboard two craft were killed in Navy fire. This shows the effectiveness of Navy’s defence lines at sea; well done SLN!

There have been reports of suicide attacks against the infantry units. SLA is on alert and are prepared for more of these as the LTTE are left with no options. Watchful soldiers have already thwarted a few suicide attacks; on occasions individual soldiers sacrificing their lives to save their comrades.

Large amounts of hardware have been found in liberated areas recently (30mm HMG, large catch of T56 guns, hundreds of 60mm & 81mm mortar bombs, etc). These findings will continue and increase as intelligence continues to trickle in. However, SLA believes that the LTTE are stocked up with hardware and ammo for them to last several more months. The main problem for the LTTE is the low morale of their cadre, including some senior ones. With a view to “hit where it hurts” SLA are currently attacking pre identified strong points in NFZ further demoralising the tigers. SLA are expecting many will surrender as the tri-force offensives intensify.

EFT predicts 58 Division to progress towards Ampalavanpokkanai, Task Force 8 to advance along the A35 and Division 53 to press on between Putumattalan and Valayanmadam.

LTTE responds to SLA's Humanitarian Ceasefire

LTTE responds to ceasefire with violence

The LTTE has responded to the SLA's unilateral declaration of a humanitarian ceasefire for the Singhala and Tamil New Year by:
1) Calling it an insult.
2) Hacking to death 8 unarmed and innocent farmers in Buttala.
3) Attempting to breach 53rd's PTK East FDL with the sole aim of slowing the SLA's escape route clearing mission (this attack was soundly repulsed).
4) Vandalising the Sri Lankan embassy in Oslo, Norway.

All the lobbying and protesting by the LTTE in Western capitals was to demand a ceasefire so that the "Genocide" is called off. The Government responded to calls from the International Community (who were pressurised by their substantial Tamil Diaspora voter base) and declared a two day ceasefire. However, what the LTTE did was exactly the opposite of what the International Community (IC) expected of them, i.e., abide by and respect the ceasefire. Once again, the LTTE has shot itself in the foot. Yet again, the GoSL has proven to the IC that the LTTE is not serious about ceasefires, all they wanted to was to re-organise and re-arm, the overseas protesters are accountable for giving the LTTE this chance. Had the LTTE abided by the ceasefire, a civilian exodus from the NFZ would have started, what is currently happening is that only a handful of IDPs are trickling into cleared areas, the LTTE is still keeping them hostage under threats of violence.

The Army Commander has a soft side too

Sources suggest that it took some persuading to convince Major General Sarath Fonseka that a temporary suspension of offensive missions was needed at this juncture to appease the IC, the Army commander after much thought and consulation with this ground commanders agreed to this approach.

Defensive operations proceed with rapid pace, large hauls of arms and ammunition uncovered

The defensive operations have not stopped though. Most of the units in reserve have turned back and are clearing the liberated areas to root out any infiltrators and dig up the buried / hidden arms.

Saradiyel and the comma

The MOD writers with their limited journalistic experience is confusing readers into thinking there are ongoing battles in Vishwamadu and that weapons are being uncovered after these battles, all that is happening is that reserve units are sweeping these areas and uncovering weapons left behind quite a while ago. Some monkey blogs have taken advantage of bad writing by the MOD and are using this oppurtunity to show the dissillusioned diaspora that the LTTE is fighting the SLA in Vishwamadu. Some monkey commentators in these primate blogs are jumping up and down about these non existent battles. It was said that Colonial Era Singhala hero Saradiyel was executed due to a grammatical error by a Singhala Post Office clerk. When the British Governer pardoned Saradiyel, the message to the executioner was miscommunicated as there was a missing comma - the message should have read "Saradiyel maranna epaa, beranna", however the post office clerk wrote this as "Saradiyal maranaa, epaa beranna". Hence Saradiyel was put to death by comma. We could not find an equivalent English translation of the post office clerk's message (whose surname was probably Wickramasinghe / Karunayake / Daluwatta), we ask one of our readers to translate this to English, a New Year prize is on offer. We apogolise for going off on a tangent about the finer points of journalism, but the message to the MOD is get it right first time and uppdate the Orbat map regularly!

Happy New Year!

We wish our readers a Happy Tamil and Singhala New Year! May all your aspirations come true in the upcoming year. Certainly peace is on the horizon.

The Sri Lanka Army does not wait and see

While a lot of publicity is being given to 53rd, 55th and 58th counter terror operations, 59th has quietly broken in through the back door. As published before, 59th is just south of Vellamullivaikal, it is possible that the forward elements will launch a full blown offensive any time now. It is raining heavily in Mulla east now, that is normally pre-cursor to a major operation. That is all we can say for now.

EFT

Friday 10 April 2009

Hostage rescue operation underway

The SLA is continuing its mission to rescue civilians trapped in the NFZ with renewed vigour. SLDF morale is at an all time high after routing the LTTE in PTK east. It is an open secret that the 59th crossed the narrow waterway separating the NFZ from the Mullaitivu mainland. The plan is for the 59th division to hold the south of the NFZ (just south of Vellamulivaikkal) and for the 53rd to cut off the north east of Nanthikandal lagoon which would bring the entire lagoon (barring the borders of the NFZ) under SLA's yoke. The regular units would then continue working on clearing safe passages for the civilians to escape. We will not comment on ongoing SF/LRRP operations.

The LTTE's Czech built T-55 MBT that was attacked and put out of action by the SLA's 58th division has been repaired by the Mech. Brigade engineers. Test firing will take place shortly, the plan is to induct this tank into battle and fire back at the LTTE with their own tank. Jolly good show we say!

Meanwhile there is no sign of the remnants of the Ratha regiment "DPU" cadres that infiltrated during the early part of March. Intel believes that they have abandoned their weapons and mingled with the civilians.

Wednesday 8 April 2009

Happy New Year & Happy Easter!

Soon we celebrate the Sinhala Tamil New year; a time of reconciliation and good will towards one another. GOSL has also limited its offensives against the LTTE (but increased tactical manoeuvres to expedite civilian liberation) as if to extend the same good will even to its enemies.

This weekend is another significant one in the calendar as Christians all over the world would celebrate Easter. Easter is a time when the supreme sacrifice by Jesus Christ and His subsequent resurrection from the dead is remembered. EFT pays tribute to supreme sacrifices made by all armed forces and civil security services of Sri Lanka in its successful effort to eradicate LTTE terrorism from our motherland.

Happy New Year to our Singala Buddhist and Tamil Hindu readers! Happy Easter to our Christian readers! Happy New Year and Happy Easter to our Singala Christian and Tamil Christian readers!

The LTTE has a golden opportunity during this New Year/Easter period to save some pride (if any left) by using “good will” as a reason to release the Human Shield; thus preventing further unnecessary hardships and loss of life for the innocent Tamil civilians.

However, the LTTE are notoriously bad at exploiting opportunities as they often involve a compromise. They are even worse at the art of compromise so there is little hope for the entrapped civilians, unfortunately, from the LTTE. Their only hope is to be liberated by the advancing SLDF and/or escape to liberated areas at their own risk.

Meanwhile, SLA could still launch attacks targeting LTTE positions which are blocking the safe passage of civilians. These passages are:

1) North via Ampalavanpokkanai towards 55 Division & West via Ampalavanpokkanai towards 58 Division
2) Causeway towards the main land from Putumattalan to Iranapalai
3) The A35 from Karayamullivaikkal
4) Causeway from Valayanmadam linking with A35

53 Division along with Task Force 8 may move eastwards along A35 hugging the Northern edge of Nanthikadal lagoon. 59 Division might move North from Mulathivu along the Eastern edge of the lagoon and the two divisions (and the task force), should meet in the next couple days. This should liberate both sides of the lagoon and a large part of the NFZ. The road linking the coast to the A35 is important as it dissects the NFZ in the middle.

Loud explosions have occurred in the NFZ today. This could be an attempted deterrent for civilians escaping. Number of civilian casualties, if any, are not yet known.

There are doubts about the body double of Piripaharan – he may not have been used as a double (pictures captured by 58 Division a few weeks back). There are also rumours that Piripaharan is planning a getaway using 25 speed boats – of which a large number of boats would act as decoys - and a merchant ship when in high seas.

LTTE Demonstrations in London - Banned LTTE flag flying in Westminster

According to the Metropolitan Police in the UK, there had been around 2,000 Tamil protestors on London’s Westminster Bridge overnight; men, women and children. The Met Police say it is an illegal protest as no prior notification was issued to relevant authorities by the protestors nor any permission granted.

Since Westminster Bridge is a gateway joining several major arteries to the city centre, some access roads had to be closed to divert vehicular traffic causing disruptions in the city centre during London’s busy morning rush hour.

In the early hours of the morning the police started to order crowds to move on. They had to use mild force to move some stubborn protestors from the bridge where they were causing traffic chaos by this illegal protest. Some of the protesters had to be carried away to a more manageable position on Westminster Square in order to open the access roads. This is when the protest turned somewhat violent. It is believed that one person jumped from the bridge in to river Thames in an attempt to self immolate. There is now confirmation of this claim by a spokesman for the Met Police. The Police and River Guards are investigating.

A majority of protestors have now dispersed, only around 200-300 remain within a police barricade on Parliament Square. They are expected to disperse despite their threats to be there until a ceasefire is put in place. They claim the British Government has done little to stop the “Genocide” in Sri Lanka. They are still contending vociferously with the police as this post goes for publication. Many flags of the banned terrorist organisation are waving freely in front of British Houses of Parliament. Judging by Live TV pictures, the younger male protestors are intimidating and bordering on violent behavoiur. Some men were restrained by forcing them on to the ground by the police.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed to the BBC News Channel a few minutes ago that because of the women and children involved, the police have been following a soft approach. However, they will now inform the crowds the demonstration is "in violation of the law" and warn if they do not disperse within a given time frame they will be arrested.

Pro-terrorist MP Simon Hughes appeared on BBC NEWS TV Channel with his usual blurb.

A Tamil woman protestor was interviewed LIVE by the BBC channel who spoke so shoddily the BBC interviewer had to remove the microphone away from her when she started talking irrelevant nonsense (as far as we could make it, it was something about getting the Met Police drunk!). This woman was an embarrassment to Tamils (or to any intelligent community). This underscores the calibre of Tamil Diaspora who attend this type of pro-LTTE demonstrations and challenges the very basis of their nonsensical protests.

Much disruption to daily life and costs to the British tax payer has been caused as a result of this illegal activity. The City of Westminster had to deploy a special team to remove all the rubbish left by the Tamil protesters overnight, hitting the pockets of council tax payers of the area.

We will publish updates as and when available.

Fat Lady warms up her voice – Less resistance from LTTE

Since the large scale elimination of LTTE fighting cadre in the last 48 hrs, the resistance to civilians trying to escape to the GOSL controlled areas has reduced significantly. This is not because there aren’t sufficient armed LTTE members in the NFZ to restrict civilians escape, but there isn’t anyone to give orders; to tell them what to do. This will not only encourage large numbers of civilians to cross over, but will cause low level armed cadres to desert their ranks and surrender. The SLA is clearing escape routes so larger numbers of civilians would be encouraged to make the move.

Though most of the heavy artillery guns and other weapons are now captured or put out of action, a serious point taken in to consideration by the SLDF is the massive stocks of arti-shells, munitions and other explosives which are stockpiled in the NFZ. These could be triggered off by the losing LTTE to create indiscriminate carnage. Therefore the SLDF are on high alert with SF (Special Forces) in position waiting to storm the NFZ when orders are given.

The morale of SLDF, particularly the SLA Infantry, is at an all time high having witnessed so many LTTE hard-core and long standing terrorist leaders on the KIA list. Vidusha & Deepam have been a thorn-in-the side of the advancing forces, but now they have truly met their Maker (we are sure the Maker is not impressed by them). Eye-witnessing the dead bodies of terrorist leaders “Live” (as opposed to hear of their demise over LTTE communication), is the icing on the cake to battle fatigued men on the front lines. This has given them an unprecedented morale boost (not that they needed one. . .) and spurred them on to fight with more vigour and vehemence.

Rumours are rife that Piripaharan is “brown bread”, but these rumours are just that, rumours. There is no truth in them. He is in civvies and probably on a crash diet in the hope of attaining the same appearance as one of the people he claims to represent. This way he hopes to mingle with the civilians to try and save his sorry...ahem...bottom. Good luck to him!

Many thanks to all bloggers who submitted their 7-letters. They were all very good, but EFT thinks MIRACLE stands out from the rest. So Congratulations! to Rayan. Here is your consolation gift - A Miracle for Rayan with compliments from EFT. Enjoy!

Fat Lady Clears her throat - PTK Liberated and LTTE suffers irreversible losses!

PTK Liberated - over 420 bodies collected

As reported earlier by EFT, the 58th and Task Force 8 (attached to the 53rd) boxed in the remnants of the LTTE's PTK fighting force north east of PTK, by last evening the vast majority of these trapped cadres were annhilated by the SLA. Over 420 bodies were collected during clearing operations (the official count stands at 250). The cadres were hunted down only after offering them a chance to surrender - about 70 did surrender, the scenes of surrender are reminiscent of Iraqi soldiers surrendering to the coalition forces in the 1991 Gulf War (our source has videos and pictures of these surrender scenes, we will upload them here if they receive clearance!).
The LTTE were not able to send in a rescue force to get these trapped cadres out as the SF had infiltrated the borders of the NFZ (as reported earlier by EFT). The SF were able to neutralize attempted LTTE incursions from the NFZ into the boxed in area.
The SLAF ably supported the SLA during this annhilation mission and used their recently acquired arsenal of laser guided A2S missiles to strike at identified targets with pin point accuracy, as has been reported by other sources - self styled "Colonel" Vidusha (commander of the Malathi brigade), "Colonel" Theepan and Nagesh, Duruga, Gadaffi (high rankers) along with other middle rung leaders have reportedly died in these air strikes.
The bodies of Theepan, Duruga and Vidusha's are said to be among the recovered corpses, an MI team from Colombo is on their way to the scene to establish the identity of the dead leaders.

Civilian exodus expected any minute now

With the trapping of the LTTE in the NFZ, the civilians are getting ready to abandon the NFZ and flee into cleared areas. Within the next 48 hours, the exodus is set to start (some say it has already started). LRRP is conducting limited operations inside the NFZ, but due to the sensitive nature of these operations, we will not reveal details. A UNHCR delegation is already in Sri Lanka , their mission is to observe the civilian exodus and ensure their welfare needs are met. If the LTTE holds the civilians any longer, they are making it worse for themselves as it would give the SLA more time to annhilate the remaining cadres, if they flee along with the civilians, they will be picked up and sent to rehabilitation.

A number of SLA infantrymen and SF soldiers have laid down their lives in the past few days of fighting, we would ask our readers to pay tribute to these fallen bravehearts.

Towards the Winning Post

SLDF is continuing their operations at close proximity to the borders of the government declared No Fire Zone (NFZ). It is no secret the LTTE have built up strong points in the NFZ from day one and operate from there hiding behind civilians. They have built sand bunds, bunkers and other strategic strong points inside the NFZ. Therefore the SLDF have to seriously consider the merits of infiltration in to the NFZ to neutralize some of these strategic strong points and/or LTTE assets. This may or may not be happening – EFT cannot confirm nor deny if SLDF are actually operating inside the NFZ. All we can say is that IF that is the case, it would be just small SF teams with the sole intention of taking out key LTTE members and assets out of action. They would be “hit-and-run” type operations carried out with expert skill and pin-point accuracy.

However, the LTTE are also actively seeking loopholes in the FDLs (Forward Defence Lines) of the SLA to infiltrate and launch surprise attacks from behind. They also seek to take over SLA armouries and ammunition dumps to replenish their dwindling hardware and consumables. The Army are well aware of these tactics from the lessons learnt from the past.

Large numbers of LTTE fighters, both hardcore higher level cadres and new recruits are killed or taken out of action on a daily basis. We will not comment on casualty figures of SLDF.

During the past few days the LTTE do appear to have built more sand bunds in the NFZ and mustered up more civilians to join the fighting forces. This they do by a mixture of coercion and indoctrination. These changes will influence military strategies of SLDF. Undoubtedly, these are the final days of the military conflict and the only hope for the LTTE leaders could be described in a 7-letter word.

We leave it with you our readers to suggest what that word might be. You may suggest more than one 7-letter word (or indeed words of any length in any language).

Tigers sorrounded in PTK East

No way out

Units of SLA's 58th division have linked up with TF8 (attached to 53rd) in PTK East - Pachchapulmudai. The SLA trapped the tigers from fleeing into the NFZ as all the access routes (including Pachchapulmudai junctions) have been cut off. It is apparent that the entire area except the NFZ will be taken under SLA control within the next 24 to 48 hours. SLAF has dropped leaflets from air asking the civilians to stay away from the LTTE ammo dumps in the NFZ. Intel suggests that there is a serious threat the LTTE might blast the dumps causing carnage to the civilians.

Charles Anthony injuries are minor

It is reported that Charles Anthony, the son of VP and heir apparent has been injured in battle. EFT can confirm that this is indeed true, however, the injuries are very slight. The injury news was in fact planted by the LTTE to show off to the diaspora that the leadership is fighting hard and leading the battle from the front, the LTTE is very keen to show the super rich diaspora that they are still committed to the cause - the LTTE does not care about poor innocent Tamil civilians, the majority of the civilains do not care much for the LTTE either.

LTTE, you have officially been had!

The most startling news revealed by our source today is that Special Forces fighting units numbering around 200 SF battle hardened soldiers have infiltrated the borders of the NFZ and have trapped the forward fighting units of the LTTE! The LTTE units are in disarray due to the uncoventional tactics used by SF units, regular infantry units confront the enemy head on and secure territory and capture bunkers lines, our SF guys are playing a totally different ball game!

END GAME!

Breaking News – Two Unidentified Aircrafts detected over the NFZ

EFT Vanni correspondent reports that two unidentified light aircraft were observed over the NFZ (No Fire Zone) few hours ago. These aircraft are reported to be smaller than the Zlin-143s which the LTTE are known to possess.
Due to the smaller size of these planes, we believe it is not capable of carrying any reasonable amount of ammunition or fly out far as Colombo.
However LTTE leaders attempting to flee the Island using these planes (and land them in the sea to continue their escape via boats) cannot be ruled out at this stage.

We will try to bring more info as it reaches us!
