Fat Lady warms up her voice – Less resistance from LTTE

Since the large scale elimination of LTTE fighting cadre in the last 48 hrs, the resistance to civilians trying to escape to the GOSL controlled areas has reduced significantly. This is not because there aren’t sufficient armed LTTE members in the NFZ to restrict civilians escape, but there isn’t anyone to give orders; to tell them what to do. This will not only encourage large numbers of civilians to cross over, but will cause low level armed cadres to desert their ranks and surrender. The SLA is clearing escape routes so larger numbers of civilians would be encouraged to make the move.

Though most of the heavy artillery guns and other weapons are now captured or put out of action, a serious point taken in to consideration by the SLDF is the massive stocks of arti-shells, munitions and other explosives which are stockpiled in the NFZ. These could be triggered off by the losing LTTE to create indiscriminate carnage. Therefore the SLDF are on high alert with SF (Special Forces) in position waiting to storm the NFZ when orders are given.

The morale of SLDF, particularly the SLA Infantry, is at an all time high having witnessed so many LTTE hard-core and long standing terrorist leaders on the KIA list. Vidusha & Deepam have been a thorn-in-the side of the advancing forces, but now they have truly met their Maker (we are sure the Maker is not impressed by them). Eye-witnessing the dead bodies of terrorist leaders “Live” (as opposed to hear of their demise over LTTE communication), is the icing on the cake to battle fatigued men on the front lines. This has given them an unprecedented morale boost (not that they needed one. . .) and spurred them on to fight with more vigour and vehemence.

Rumours are rife that Piripaharan is “brown bread”, but these rumours are just that, rumours. There is no truth in them. He is in civvies and probably on a crash diet in the hope of attaining the same appearance as one of the people he claims to represent. This way he hopes to mingle with the civilians to try and save his sorry...ahem...bottom. Good luck to him!

Many thanks to all bloggers who submitted their 7-letters. They were all very good, but EFT thinks MIRACLE stands out from the rest. So Congratulations! to Rayan. Here is your consolation gift - A Miracle for Rayan with compliments from EFT. Enjoy!

Can anyone explain what that ridiculous and unpleasant looking one handed salute of the LTTE is about? It looks sooooo ugly. Everything about the LTTEs salute, their garments and march are ugly. Have you seen what the female cadres wear, those baggy pants with a belt at the middle, harks back to the hip hop days of the early 90s (Mc Hammer and Vanilla Ice anyone)? They need a makeover, btw, too late for that!

I think they are busy in making sufficient blog posts in puligal, puthinam and other places to ensure Diaspora would not get disillusioned reading the truth from elsewhere and stop funding. That’s the main purpose of attacking the credibility of defence.lk , army.lk etc. There could be non-web communications to the internationals peelamist leaders too to keep feeding the punakku to Diaspora.

I am commenting on the dark as I am a layman and don't have access to insider info.

If live capture/amnesty to the fat pig is an issue, Sri Lanka's second best Defence Minister Late Ranjan Wijeratne comes to mind. Until the JVP leader was caught, confessions extracted and disposed and cremated only a handful of people knew. (wasn't it rumoured that even the president of the country didnt know?). Great brain to fight terrorism. He knew if even a body was left that would be enough for the followers to create carnage. No wonder LTTE eliminated him.

Sam Perera said...

Ian,

Ditto. I like Ranjan's style to any LTTE leader.

It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen... They look soooo gay when they do that... not that there's anything wrong with being gay or gay people =)

How can a fighting force supposedly so fierce have such a lame salute?!?

1. What's the problem you have with Puran Appu?

2. Why the fcuk you call us ladies?

3. Hakeem says SLA don't go in to the NFZ due to international pressure, citing the answer to BBC. What you are trying to say?

4. You/ SF@LNP said (DW hinted) 70 cadres surrendering. No official news. Today 70 more dead tigers recovered. Any thing bad happened?

5. So you are still saying Poddu story is true..? SF@LNP also same.. Are you the same guy?

All the official (repeated) statements suggest otherwise.

i) GR said legal action will be taken for LTTE high rankers - Poddus name was included.

ii) Poddu is wanted by India - I don't think GSL can keep him hiding from India or India will let him who killed their PM, become another Pilliyan.

iii) Military spokesman said many times Poddu is in PTK, he was commanding there, now escaped to the NFZ.

I also think if Poddu is wih GSL then this war was over many weeks before and GSL blackmail India and score propaganda resulting diASSpora moral downing. i.e. Advantages are more if revealed rather than keeping it secret. Nothing happened.

It is very unlikely that we will leave Vihilu-pundey in the NFZ as Rauf Hakeem the traitor is saying. I am extremely hard pressed to believe that General Fonseka and Secretary Rajapaksa along with President Rajapakse will care for international opinion at this point to stop short of NFZ. This is the final leg and we need to eliminate the terrorists now. If they don't it will be a political problem for the President from the voter base. End of the day, the president is answerable to the people of Sri Lanka not to the international peace monkeys and foreign meddlers of our internal matters.

Military in new ‘tactical manoeuvre’ to free civilians

Buries all 525 LTTE bodies as no one to receive them

The Military is to launch a decisive ‘tactical manoeuvre’ to free over hundreds of civilians held hostage by the LTTE in the thin 17sq. km. coastal land strip in Mullaitivu, the Defence Ministry said yesterday.

The Defence Ministry said the operation would be the largest humanitarian intervention by a conventional military force in modern times.

On Sunday, the army completed the capturing of entire Puthukkudiyiruppu after fierce battle that lasted for more than three days, killing more than 500 LTTE cadres, including second level leaders of the LTTE. Now the remaining LTTE leaders and cadres were confined to the No- fire zone, where some thousands of civilians were being trapped.

Meanwhile, five more LTTE bodies were identified as top level leaders of the LTTE. Among them head of the Artillery Brigade – Manivannan, head of the Mortar Brigade Gopal, head of the Radha Brigade Seelambaran, head of the Jeyanthan Brigade and former Batticaloa intelligence head Keerthi and senior leader of the ‘Sodiya’ Women Brigade Mohana.

The ministry said that search and clear operations were being conducted by the troops in Puthukkudiyiruppu area recovered 72 more LTTE dead bodies yesterday, brining the number of LTTE bodies to 525.

In addition, troops uncovered a fresh haul of arms and ammunition from the same area yesterday during extended search and clear operations.

Why not? If that certified war criminal Karuna can become a Minister in the GoSL then who isn't up for amnesty?

That child stealing and conscripting thug who was very happy for years killing innocent civilians as well as members of the SLA... he should burn in hell with VP but folks like you support this terrorist now that he has crossed the line to save his miserable ass.

Double standard... the very thing limited thinkers like you despise in others comes back to bite your ass.

The GoSL will live to regret taking this certifiable war criminal in as an agent of the very Government he sought to subvert in every malfeasant manner he and his murderous grease-balls could manage.

He needs to hang in public with the rest of the LTTE leadership.

It is Westminster... how hard is it to goggle and get the basics correct??

FYI... quite a few Countries (NOT Sri Lanka) have entrenched the legal right for people to gather, protest and speak publicly in regards to their beliefs. Even if many folks disagree with such protests it is in the interest of freedom and democracy to allow the public expression of one's view.

The LTTE supporters have long lost the plot in the UK (and elsewhere) but at least in that part of the world it is legal to speak out as it suits the individual.

Te GoSL has much to learn about FOS as do folks like you. We may both agree the LTTE are cowards, terrorists and deserving of an ignoble demise but not now or ever at the expense of the values that separate failed states from those that honestly embrace the greatest aspects of enlightened action.

The Eelamists missed that memo and so has the GoSL... although they seem to be getting the message if only in terms of acquiescing for the sake of IMF intervention.

Sri Lankan troops 'not in hurry'
By Anbarasan Ethirajan
BBC News, Colombo

Sri Lankan government forces are in no hurry to storm a designated "safe zone" to pursue Tamil Tiger rebels in the north-east, the defence secretary says.

Gotabhaya Rajapakse's comments come a day after the military said it had confined the rebels to the so-called no-fire zone occupied by civilians.

Officials said more than 400 rebels, including five senior commanders, were killed in Mullaitivu district.

The rebels are yet to react to the military's version of events.

'Significant milestone'

"We have no plans of going into the safe zone immediately. Our aim is to get the civilians safely out of the no-fire zone. So, we are watching at the moment," Mr Rajapakse said in an interview with the BBC.

His comments follow warnings by aid agencies that there may be heavy civilian casualties if the rebels fight back against the army's move to enter the safe zone.

INSURGENCY TIMELINE

1976 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam form in the north-east
1987 India deploys peace-keepers to Tamil areas but they leave in 1990
1993 President Premadasa killed by Tiger bomb
2001 Attack on airport destroys half Sri Lankan Airlines fleet
2002 Government and rebels agree ceasefire
2005 Mahinda Rajapakse becomes president
2006 Heavy fighting resumes
2009 Army takes main rebel bases of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu
It is estimated that there are between 40,000 and 100,000 civilians trapped in the safe zone, which is about 20 sq km of coastal area.

Mr Rajapakse, the most senior civilian official in charge of the war, said there were indications that civilians were lining up to leave the area.

More than 60,000 civilians have already fled the war zone in recent months and they have been housed in government-run relief centres and camps in the northern region.

"I don't think the Tamil Tigers can be a viable force any more. There are reports that there are lots of dissensions within the rebels. They can always surrender," Mr Rajapakse said.

The defence official once again denied allegations that security forces were firing into the safe zone.

The United Nations says more than 2,800 civilians may have been killed and 7,000 others injured in the fighting in the north-east in the last two months.

The government disputes these figures.

The clashes between security forces and Tamil Tigers have intensified in recent weeks as the security forces are in what they say is a final push to defeat the rebels and end nearly three decades of conflict.

Officials said the Tigers' last bastion, Puthukudiyiruppu region in Mullaitivu district, fell on Sunday after ferocious close quarter battles.

Scuffles as British police end all-night Tamil demo

British police moved in moments ago to end an overnight protest by Tamils over alleged rights abuses in Sri Lanka, triggering brief scuffles, an AFP reporter said.

Objects including cans and a stick were thrown as a few hundred protestors were rounded up on Parliament Square, after being cleared away from Westminster Bridge where the rally had disrupted traffic.

Protestors chanted "Shame on British police" and "We want ceasefire," while some lay down on the ground, after brief scuffles between demonstrators and officers calmed down.

At least two people were taken away on stretchers, although there were no apparent injuries. A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman did not immediately have information about them.

The protest started Monday, and at one stage overnight had expanded to about 3,000 men, women and children. But by Tuesday morning it appeared to number 200-300.

Before they were moved on one demonstrator, who declined to be named, vowed: "We will stay until we have an answer from Gordon Brown ... Our relatives are dying out there and so we will stay here."

Hoo hoo.

Now how about those riot friendly police in ultra-democratic Britain.

More to follow, sooner the Brits will review the visa status of these trouble makers. Get ready to come back "home"

Where is the GOSL PR counteroffensive?

The UK Eelamtards are have made a great news splash with their demo on Westminster Bridge. They're being interviewed on local London radio stations, local TV reports etc. The LTTE's tame MPs are also on air demanding that the UK put pressure of GOSL for a 'humanitarian' ceasefire.

The constantly repeated theme is of 'genocide' and 'massive loss of civilian life' due to SLA shelling. No mention of why the civilians are in the NFZ.

As you might expect, the BBC is giving Eelamtard spokesmen a generally easy ride.

Where is the GOSL spokesman from the High Commission, refuting these allegations and exposing the LTTE's lies? I may've missed their appearance, but they have to get serious and get on air immediately. Remember, UK broadcasters have a statutory duty of impartiality.

When UK Eelamtards are allowed to vent and lie without a strong rebuttal from the GOSL, the impression is formed amongst the normal Brit that there's substance to the Eelamtards' wild allegations. 'No smoke without fire' etc.

One good side effect of this demo is that the Met will update their database of potential LTTE gangsters now living in London.

As for any hope that Eelamists will be ejected from the UK, forget it. They can't even get rid of proven hardcore Islamists from the UK. Note how they've allowed the LTTE flag to be flown without any repercussions.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Mango;

Totally agree with you. At the rate SL officers react [if ever] public would have forgotten the event by then.

BTW, I'm happy for what British police did. They showed what they deserved if they try to stage "harthal" in that part of the world.

British political figures will pay for their mistakes one day.
