President's address to the nation being prepared

The President will address the nation on tuesday at 9.30 am SL time - Updated @ 10:40 BST

We have been reliably informed that the President, his closest advisors, PR gurus and Sarath Fonseka (recently arrived from China) are discussing the message that is to be delivered to the nation and international media. With such an important message such as this, there are several factors (mood of the nation, mood of the international community etc.) to be considered in drafting the contents of this speech. Therefore, the preparations are taking longer than expected and we hope that it will be delivered later this afternoon or evening. As soon as we get the time of delivery, we will let you know. EFT requests its readers to be patient, it is the message we have all been waiting for.

LTTE ready to “silence its guns”

Daily Mirror

Head of the LTTE’s International Diplomatic Relations Selvarasa Pathmanathan has said in a statement today the LTTE is read to “silence its guns” in order to save the lives of civilians still caught up in the fighting. However there was no mention of a Tiger surrender.

Its not easy to deliver a message like this, its not like the opening of a school or a hospital, the message will have repercussions. Delivered at the right tone, it will lift the nation, encourage reconciliation and appease the International Community, delivered incorrectly, it will please a few but incense the international community, make him a martyr and encourage revenge, death, destruction and continuation of the LTTE and concept of Eelam. It has to be just right, we have not come this far to risk it for the benefit of a few.

Mahen said...

Lots of speculation on the way he died, we refuse to publish simply because we don't want to fuel speculation, the truth is only a few hours away.

Tiger chief body believed found; unconfirmed: sources
Sun May 17, 2009 5:39am EDT

COLOMBO (Reuters) - A body believed to be that of Tamil Tiger founder leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran has been found but the identity of the corpse has not been confirmed, Sri Lankan military sources said on Sunday.

"They are taking the body for checks to confirm it is the real Prabhakaran," one military official told Reuters on conditions of anonymity. Four other military sources confirmed the recovery and said identity checks were under way.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara denied the report.

Lankan army claims Prabhakaran dead

New Delhi: Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief V Prabhakaran could be dead with Sri Lankan army sources telling CNN-IBN that his body has been recovered and is being taken to an army camp in Colombo.

Sri Lankan army sources say they have recovered 150 bodies of LTTE cadres but the bodies are still being identified.

According to reports all civilians held hostage by the LTTE have now been freed from the battle zone.

Looks like VP out smarted MR even after the death. They are going to get all the credit. The story will go like 'Remaining LTTE was massacred after surrender which is a war crime'

Esvee,

We are on the same wavelength.

Mahen said...

Guys all of you,

Using all your contacts, please lobby the establishment to request the President to address the nation, untold damage will be done if we delay.

Very true, if we wait further this would soon become a joke not only internationally but also within SL. All the people were waiting all day to hear the good news of victory but victory seems to be far..... They could have just kept it a secret until they officially announce. There is no reason for MR to come back in a hurry. The initiall enthusiasm to hear his words has died down by now, just look at the many comments here....

Ravana,
Very true. I am going to sleep now. On night shifts these days.

If it happens, that will be a very sad affair. This is an internet age. the info can leak and spread very fast unlike earlier days when one had to rely on radio and print.Eventhough the war is over we have to win it in all ways..

But then all my thoughts could be wrong...

Whats the point of the Prez coming into the airport in scenes of jubilation, kissing the ground, hugging every Tom, Dick and Harry and waving at the crowds and then not making a statement? What was the point of that show? We were expecting him to make an announcement at the airport itself actually.

Our sources in the establishment and the SLDF are severely disappointed, they feel let down after coming this far, all their hardwork is being undone by LAZINESS and a case of "LOSING THE PLOT".

Ninja was right in saying the President will address on Tuesday. Mahen should apologize if not already done.

)┐ said...

If this gets late any further, the LTTE would declare that they would be surrendering and if that happens and we have already killed VP and others by now, it would amount to a war crime when we declare on Tuesday that they have been killed. If by chance the LTTE leadership is still alive, then the IC would start to press the GoSL for their surrender into the hands of international observers and they will free themselves to fight another day. Eitherway we would be the ones to loose. It like "gedara giyoth ambu nasee, maga raendunoth tho nasee", unless MR decides to declare liberation today itself.

Mahen said...

S, you don't get it, Ravana, you fully get it. Protecting our country should come above winning votes.

Guys most of your comments make sense, but surely there should be some reason behind silence. What MR wanted to say and what blocked it are both mysteries as at now.

Most likely scenario is that he wants to declare full victory which is likely to happen tonight. Fatpig's death is what ppl are waiting to hear, and Mahen is holding that too [I guess].

Pussycats having appointed a new leader, so that leads to me to two options, Either pig is dead or have decided to pretend as if he's dead.

In any case let's be vigilant. And defend this K-M-N line of information warfare.

Cheers.

Mahen,

I cannot understand why after all this suffering by the innocent masses and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers, why the president keeps silence. No need for VP's body to be recognised, if the LTTE is destroyed what else matters? Why, after handling this problem in the correct way all this time, why has MR sidelined this great victory? Is it that there is a "subha naekatha" on Tuesday??????
