Taming of the Shrew

By EFT correspondent reporting from New Buhari

EFT earlier reported that the injured Angelo Matthews was replaced by the attacking Colts and Wayamba all rounder. Thissara is known to be the best all rounder in the Island and his first class batting and bowling averages easily surpass Matthews and Maharoof. The public wonders why Thissara has not been picked for the senior squad before, here is EFT’s lowdown:

Although 20 years old, Thissara is already married. His wife is of the traditional Sri Lankan mould, nagging and demanding so much so that she wants to tour wherever he goes (no fault of the poor young girl, its just the way we bring up girls in this country). Poor old (young) Thissara dedicates most of his time to entertain every whim and fancy of his wife which has led to routine skirmishes with the tour management. Thissara has in the past made unreasonable demands regarding his wife’s travel and lodging arrangements from tour management. Tour organisers are already having nightmares given that he is due to join the side in India with his wife in tow. On previous tours his wife has been a pain to all concerned and has made poor old (young) Thissara run around in circles to meet her demands. Thissara has lost many opportunities to tour due to his incorrigible wife. EFT’s advice to Thissara, “Please rein in your wife!” EFT’s other advice to unmarried young players wanting to break into the side is, “for God’s sake don’t get married! And if you do, lay the ground rules from day one!”

Meanwhile a certain Media Manager of a certain South Asian Cricket Board is a known crook. This certain individual has fleeced money out of poor domestic servants in a certain Gulf country promising non existent tickets and subsequently fled this certain Gulf country leaving the poor housemaids stranded and without their hard earned cash saved through immense hardships to return to the certain South Asian country to see their loved ones. EFT implores this certain South Asian Cricket Board to conduct internal investigations about this certain individual’s past affairs. EFT likes to advise the Chairman of the Board not to go the way of Life of Brian and may Saint Thomas impart all his blessings on the corrupt individual to redeem himself. EFT would like to take this oppurtunity to wish all Sri Lankans in Bahrain heading home for Christmas Holidays on Air Lanka a safe and happy flight.

Suranga Lakmal flops in debut

By EFT correspondent reporting from Kanatta Road.

The much awaited debut of 22 year old fast bowler Suranga Lakmal ended in disaster. The Indian batsmen duly dispatched the lanky Colts and Wayamba fast bowler to all parts of the field, he was not able to bowl a good line and length or trouble the batsmen in any way. The selectors hailed Suranga as the next big thing, he has talent among them a good outswinger and the ability to reverse, so the selectors were right to pick him, however here is the inside scoop on his underperformance or rather non performance.

Suranga hails from a humble and simple family in Matara, not very well to do, he is now paid RS 150,000 as a player with a central contract, however, he has not learned how to control his sudden new found wealth and is squandering his money and time chasing after girls in Colombo nightspots. What players do in their personal time is none of the public’s business in so far as it doesn’t affect on field performance, however Suranga’s dusk to dawn exploits have led him to miss many training sessions and he has resorted to lying to get out of early morning training camps (being drunk), and has also been caught staging injuries to excuse himself from playing and training. He has also not taken advice from the team nutritionist to put on weight, this is no surprise given his increasing appetite for girls and decreasing appetite for food. The team coaches are finding it near impossible to get him to attend training camps.

If this goes on Suranga will go the way of Dilhara Fernando, an immensely talented player who fell by the wayside due to his nocturnal exploits, we hope he doesn’t.

Stay tuned for further updates.

The truth about Murali’s absence

By EFT Sports correspondent reporting from Malabe

It was announced by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that Murali has been ruled out of the ongoing limited overs series in India due to an injury, however EFT Sports correspondent can reveal that the real reason for Murali’s absence is that he wants to spend more time with his family in Chennai than play for the country. Murali voluntarily pulled out of the series citing personal reasons, however SLC keen to keep this news out of the media eye have duped the cricketing public into believing that Murali is out due to injury. Murali’s commitment to Sri Lankan cricket is and was never questionable, however it is an open secret that the “seniors” have fallen out with Sanga over his dubious captaincy style, rarely do the public get to see the seniors huddling together in the field and working out a strategy to defeat the opposition, which were commonplace before Sanga took over and brought his own Kandy Nilame style to the field. The bowlers are suffering too due his erratic bowling changes and some cricketing pundits are stunned on why he doesn’t employ slow bowlers more often.

Parippu wars

EFT correspondent reporting from Rajagiriya.

We break our silence....

So, Willy, let me and you be wipers
Of scores out with all men -- especially pipers!
And, whether they pipe us free from rats or from mice,
If we've promised them aught, let us keep our promise!

The Chena Boys and Veddha Girls have really done it this time, seems like Chena Boys and Veddha Girls can only stay together in times of war, post war seems like Veddha Girls have poured a cauldron of parippu (Dhal) over the heads of Chena Boys, there is a real and imminent threat of anti Sri Lankan / unpatriotic forces coming into power, we urge all the patriots not to take sides but rather to try and reunite the Chena Boys and Veddha Girls, otherwise its parippu for us all.

Two worlds

By Deshal,

The views presented here are stricly those of the writer and do not in any way represent the views and opinions of EFT or its members.

This planet which we call Earth consists of two worlds. One is a world where the rich and the lucky live in. These countries have spotless human rights records. They not at all break the human rights of a single human being who deserves to have the human rights. The countries are well developed and civilized; any country who would look into the future would try to be on their side. This world primarily consists of countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Israel, Nordic countries and Western European countries. They all believe in God and non of the governments would dare violate any human rights in these countries.

On contrast, the other world consists of countries which violate human rights, which traffic narcotics, which are ruled by the dictators, which assist terrorism and which provides very poor living conditions to the citizens. The people suffer economic hardships, militaries in these countries would kill ruthlessly and they do not fear the almighty God. Countries such as Russia, China, Vietnam, Venezuela, Iran, Burma, North Korea, Brazil, India, Palestine, few other Latin American, eastern European and Asian countries would fall into this category. This is the uncivilized world and all hell breaks loose within these countries.

The civilized world always advice the uncivilized world as to how they should develop themselves but these brutes within this uncivilized territory are not willing to listen. This is the light that we have to view United States’ statement made to Sri Lanka, stating that Sri Lanka should investigate its human rights record. In Sri Lanka, naturally human rights violations would happen as the people who live here are still in tribal state. Ancient civilizations and the order we claim to have are all myths in the eyes of the civilized world. They actually did not exist. Thus, we should listen to the United States of America and punish those who violated the human rights (every human being has the right to live and killing any human being is treated as human rights violation).

Sri Lankans really violated human rights. Every terrorist has the right and the will to live. Taking their lives away is violation of human rights of the terrorist. The responsibility of the government is to approach the terrorist with caution, take him into custody, proceed with legal system and rehabilitate him if proven guilty. No, we cannot kill a terrorist as this would amount to violating human rights. But can a terrorist kill? Naturally, it is their job. The international community consist of all the civilized nation will never hold a terrorist group responsible for killings. But an elected government has the responsibility to act responsibly and not violate human rights irrespective of whatever the cost would be to the whole nation and the world at large.

LTTE has the right to develop weapons, form governments, genocide and all that because they are terrorists. But the government as a responsible and democratic entity would have to ensure LTTE does all these things in a legal way and if they do things in a wrong way, to arrest, prosecute and punish. If that very practical approach would have been taken, all LTTE youth would be living (while the whole army would have been dead – but that is non of our concern). That would have eliminated the pressure from the international community on us and we would have been certified to be a civilized country (or two for that matter).

Now that we have gone and done the grave mistake violating the human rights of the LTTE, we need to investigate and punish ruthlessly to those who violated such rights. We have praised them as heroes who bravely fought for their motherland. They gave their lives to liberate their land from the terror maniacs. Now, come to think of it in the American light, they have just violated the human rights. We must correct these now. We must let all those who stay in the welfare villages go to their native lands. Landmines might be there but there is no place like home. They can use landmines to hunt wild boar and bring meet home. Few kids might die due to explosive devices hidden and the booby traps. Those are bearable as all the internally displaced people get their right to go to wilderness with no means of making a living. After all, it is just right for them to have their right to suffer; they are just Tamils and not American.

When America or its coalitions of civilized nations walks into another man’s land, they make sure they spread human rights. Those who are born out of the civilized world were created by the almightily God there for one thing; suffer. Now if Sri Lanka would end terrorism and develop, this is not done. Thus, the rights of Sri Lankans to suffer would have to be protected, according to the USA. In Iraq, in Afghanistan and in any other country in which has invaded, they would make sure that the people will enjoy the right to suffer and the US expects Sri Lankan government to do the same. US drones bomb civilian houses in Pakistan, US has killed more than half a million of Iraqi civilians, destroyed their infrastructure and facilities etc because they wanted to ensure the human rights of these people. Israel has been doing the same to Palestinians from the inception of the Jewish state.

Thus, it is a must; I repeat, it is a must that SL investigates those who attempts to end the right for Sri Lankans to suffer. We must take them to the courts and punish them. Thus, we ourselves can one day be a pooch of the civilized world and live on their leftovers. If we would try to raise our heads like lions, we would definitely become a part of the uncivilized world. It is up to us to choose our path.

Defamation campaign raises its head again

Dear readers,
Late last year, when it was evident that the SLDF defeat of the LTTE was a foregone conclusion, a well orchestrated campaign to defame the then SLA commander, Lt. General Sarath Fonseka was organised by the LTTE and pro LTTE elements in Sri Lanka. The intention was to drive a wedge between the SLA commander and the Government, specifically to damage the very close relationship between the Commander and the President / Defence Secretary. Through concerted efforts by the patriots, this campaign was nullified.

However, following the end of the war and victory over the LTTE, the vicious campaign has raised its ugly head, the renewed campaign is an attempt to break the UPFA voter base claiming that Chief of Defence Staff will run for office next year. Some UPFA stalwarts and patriots have fallen for this campaign hook, line and sinker and have issued statements that have not helped, and have only managed to intensify the rumour mills. EFT sources close to the Government have confirmed to us that the relationship between the Chief of Defence Staff and the President / Defence Secretary is closer than ever and have nullified the speculation that the CDS will run for President as a common candidate. EFT would also like to quell the popular belief that the CDS is a ceremonial post, according to the provisions of the CDS act, the CDS has executive powers and is the senior most SLDF officer in the Island with the power to command the forces. Do not fall for this malicious campaign and do not fall for the rumours, do your best to nip this unpatriotic acts in the bud.

LTTE split imminent

Kumar Pathmanathan (KP) and V. Mannivannan (Castro) row intensifies

The fact that KP (alias Selvarajah Pathmanathan) and Castro (Veerakulasingham Manivannan) dislike each other is an open secret. The row started when KP was appointed “Head of International Relations” an empowered role and Castro was appointed “Head of International Secretariat” a largely ceremonial role. KP was charged with weapons procurement and had access to millions if not billions of dollars worth of funds, Castro on the other hand was left to coordinate diaspora affairs. However, the wheel chair bound Castro (injured following a mortar attack) is the darling of the diaspora whereas KP has little or nothing to do with the diaspora. There is no love lost between KP and Castro, it is said that both Vellupillai Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman favoured KP over Castro. Castro is known for his hard line stance and for his ruthlessness, Pottu sensing rivalry, clipped Castro’s wings about two years ago.

In the current scenario, Castro’s activism may have triggered a schism in the LTTE diaspora. Following the Pottu affair, Castro regained his position in the LTTE. Castro has galvanized diaspora support around him and is trying to push KP out of the scene, LTTE media’s latest position is clear evidence of this, it is a well known fact that LTTE media is run and funded by the diaspora, they did not publish KP’s latest statement confirming the death of VP. Intel does not think KP will fight for the LTTE cause as he's a businessman and is not under pressure from the diaspora. Castro on the other hand must give the illusion that he is committed to the LTTE cause, how he achieves this without KP’s contacts, business acumen and more importantly the vast sums of money remains to be seen. As last note, we must mention that VP always had faith in KP.

Breaking News - LTTE finally admits that their "Supreme Leader" is dead

LTTE, you have been had!

A short while ago, Selvarajah Pathmanathan, alias KP - chief weapons smuggler and Interpol wanted terrorist issued a statement to the BBC that their leader, Vellupillai Prabhakaran was killed in "fighting" on May the 17th. LTTE have declared a national week of mourning and promised to fight for Tamil rights using non violent means, a most startling change in position.

Here is the original BBC news article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/8066129.stm

General Sarath Fonseka is live on National TV - ITN now (5:00pm BST - 24th of May).

This is it, its over, the final nail in the coffin, LTTE has been confined to the history books.

We ask our readers to ponder on the following

1 - What is going to happen to the remaining LTTE funds, conservative estimates say the booty is close to $1 billion, you may remember that it was EFT who first revealed that the diaspora were fighting over the funds when the first sign of LTTE's military prowess was under question.

2 - Think about why KP has suddenly come to the fore, who is he (apart from a gun runner), why did he first say that VP was not dead?

We are truly ONE NATION under ONE FLAG

This is by far the most humbling post EFT have thus far had the privilege to publish.

Though we had the information confirmed to us several hours ago, we only indicated this to our readers with an informal update to our main post. This is because we considered it our national leader’s honourable duty to officially announce to the world that the war against LTTE terror is over with the conclusion of the humanitarian operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Defence Forces, the Police Service and a host of other agencies working together with the people of Sri Lanka.

We are extremely humbled by the commitment and sacrifices of all who gave their limb & life for us to see this day. There are many who worked hard to make this day happen. We do not need to tell our intelligent readers who, what, when, where and how this amazing task was achieved.

It may be an opportune moment to acknowledge our “ladies” who have been an inspiring readership, spurring us on in what we did. We were going to fold our blog with the announcement of Ellalanforce poll results. However you requested us to carry on and here we are at the most exciting time of our nation since independence. For us this day is several times more significant than independence from Britain.

With our hand on our heart we can say that from the very beginning EFT has been utterly committed to ridding our motherland of filthy LTTE terrorists. Our original intention was to take the terror-supporting bloggers for a joy ride. We achieved that with some remarkable success. By then we realised that we can go a step further and offer a forum to our readers to discuss defence matters in a serious yet fun environment. Only you can be the judge of how we went about achieving that.

While we celebrate the occasion let us spare a thought for the thousands of our war heroes who gave their lives for a most noble cause; let us dig deep to do whatever we can do to secure a better future for our motherland and all its peoples.

Government commits PR disaster

The LTTE international ring has started counter attacking the Government's claim of victory by exploiting the gaping PR left open when the President decided to delay the victory announcement.

Mouth piece of the LTTE - TamilNet has released a pre-recorded messags claiming to be from "Colonel" Soosai claiming that the GoSL is refusing to negotiate LTTE's terms of surrender and that "25,000" civilians are at risk of death. Pro LTTE media sources like the BBC have quickly picked up on this message and is broadcasting this as headline news. GoSL is at risk of jeopardising its reputation by sheer ignorance, laziness and incompetence, delaying the message puts us at risk of international sanctions and delay or cancellation of the IMF loan. When the country needs the the President the most, he is resting after his short flight from Jordan, the excuse given for the delay is that the Government instituitions are closed and the President is unable to get accurate statistics, facts, etc. to include in his message. How about identifying the Government servants they need to get the facts from, charter a bus, go their houses, knock on their doors and take them to their offices and get them to give the information they need. For our part we can confirm that the message from Soosai was NOT released this afternoon and not a single civilian is at risk of ANYTHING, they have ALL been RESCUED.

We urge our readers to lobby their Government, Ministerial and SLDF contacts to get the President to deliver his message without further adieu.

President's address to the nation being prepared

The President will address the nation on tuesday at 9.30 am SL time - Updated @ 10:40 BST

We have been reliably informed that the President, his closest advisors, PR gurus and Sarath Fonseka (recently arrived from China) are discussing the message that is to be delivered to the nation and international media. With such an important message such as this, there are several factors (mood of the nation, mood of the international community etc.) to be considered in drafting the contents of this speech. Therefore, the preparations are taking longer than expected and we hope that it will be delivered later this afternoon or evening. As soon as we get the time of delivery, we will let you know. EFT requests its readers to be patient, it is the message we have all been waiting for.

Pictured above are the creme-de-la-creme of the of the LTTE, but they had too much cream, ice cream, cream crackers, cream pudding etc. It was their stomachs that betrayed them, they got fat, due to the cream. All of the above are either dead, captured, or surrendered.

- Updated @ 09:09 BST

Just received confirmation that a very important message has been delivered from the MOD to the President who is currently in a state visit to Jordan.

VP sorrounded
- Updated @ 06:30 BST

EFT has been informed that the LTTE leader VP and others have been crippled and surrounded by the SLA. The ground commanders are awaiting final orders from the Military top brass (led by Commander in Chief Maithripala Sirisena) in Colombo to handle the situation as numerous appeals have been made to the international diplomats by the LTTE asking amnesty for its leader. A surrender to the SLA with the knowledge of the IC is on the cards as this will guarantee a safe arrest to the LTTE leader. Explosions continue to occur in the nearby areas.

Silvas Liberate the Lankan Coast

At around 0530 hrs troops of the 58th and 59th Divisions met in a historical occasion. After the liberation about 35 minutes ago the 2 Silva Brigadiers shook hands in the coastal stretch marking an informal, yet a historic occasion.
The divisions had to face a barrage of suicide boat attacks as especially the 58th Division made some rapid movements foxing the LTTE think tank completely. Prior to that a hive of naval activity was monitored as suicide boats of the Sea Tigers tried to engage the SLN cordon as well as the troops patrolling the coastal stretch. Ground commanders believe that this was an unsuccessful attempt to breach the naval cordon to get the LTTE leaders out of the battle zone. It was revealed that the naval assets of the Tigers were unable to be mobilized due to the unexpected manouvers exhibited by the 2 Divisions. It is reported that a large quantity of fresh water was used by the ground troops to negate the unorthodoxed defensive methods used by the tigers.

The LTTE leader VP along with Soosai is currently hiding amongst the fleeing civilians and over a 100 Black Tigers. The hostage rescue operation is at full swing and close to 3000 people are lined up to be rescued by the advancing 53rd Div troops and TF8 troops located in the opposite side of the Nanthikadal Lagoon. The LTTE leaders have dispatched all their relatives to the Army held area with forged identities and the MI sleuths of the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) are in a tedious process of identifying them.
The military are instructed by Sri Lanka's Commander in Chief of the Armed forces Hon. Minister of Agrarain Services Maithripala Sirisena to take time to minimise the number of civilian casualties as an operation of haste to get to the Tiger supremo will result in massive civilian deaths. It is reported that VP has a large volume of explosives stacked at his location to detonate and create a blood bath.
So the remaining work for the 53rd Div will require a lot of finesse where its commander is not known for.

LTTE is crumbling

Updated @ 21:20 BST
  • Two self-appointed LTTE Colonel and 6 other regional level leaders have surrender to SLA.
Updated @ 18:35 BST

  • SLA 58 has pulled back due to heavy fighting earlier. Will be on forward run again soon. Currently engaged in heavy fighting with VP's security Tigers.

Updated @ 15:45 BST

  • SLA 59,58 divisions in frontline less than 1800m to meet.
  • 53, 59 divisions are 1200m away from each divisions.

Update @13.20 BST

Intel confirmed that LTTE leader VP is currently in his bunker set. He's guarded by about 100 black tigers at present.

Update @13.00 BST

The self proclaimed "Government Doctor" has turned himself in to the forces of the 58th division. Still many explosions are heard in the unliberated Vellamullivaikkal area and the 58th Division troops have entered the area allocated for temporary shelters.

Soosai's Family Caught!

Soosai's family has been arrested by the Navy while trying to flee the terror held area after Soosai's battle with the LTTE leader.

Updated @ 8:35 BST

It is reported that the 58th Division has resorted to the use of gas masks amidst indiscriminate fire setting by the LTTE. The masked troops are in a strenuous effort to rescue the trapped civilians amongst the large fire. This seems to be the latest method adapted by the tiger supremo to stop civilians from leaving as even high profile mahveer families seem to be abandoning them.
So far over 7000 civilians have crossed over during the last 48 hours.
Both 58th and 53rd Divisions seem to be just over 1km away from the 59th Division and expected to merge tonight. 59 Div is dealing with a newly made earth bund on its way towards the 58th and 53rd.
Special Forces groups have infiltrated the tiger held area on the look out for the LTTE leader. He is in the process of destroying his assets and the civilians around him to discredit the government.

Updated @ 08:00 BST

  • Some of the Soosai's carders surrended to 53. More expected. (Please refer to main article)
  • 53 and 59 are 1.2 km is a away from each other.

Updated @ 06:45 BST
  • 1.5km more to seal off the coast. 10 Suicide boats found and a mortar factory in Wellamullivaikkal.
  • 4500 + civilians rescued since yesterday (14th)

Soosai vs VP

The LTTE is crumbling right before our eyes. They have split into several camps, two of the main camps being Soosai and VP groups, they have started killing each other, Soosai and his group has defected from VP's LTTE team.

Intel report suggests that Soosai's LTTE team is currently involved with attacking VP's LTTE team due to fall out.

Last Weekend for LTTE
The 58th and 59th are to join up by the evening on the eastern side of A35. We are poised to wipe out the remaining LTTE pockets by the weekend (by 16th - 17th). The cable laying was done by SF4. Lots of credit goes to Prassanna Silva.

Grave hopes for LTTE

Offensive continues

58 Division has captured the 300m long beach front where Farah 3 sank. However LTTE still operate from Farah 3 which should get cleared soon too. Div 59 had some casualties due to heavy morning/afternoon fighting yesterday (13th of May), initially lost small ground been captured and increased the thrust. SLA is advancing with caution while SLN are busy guarding the sea area without leaving any gaps for the terrorists to escape.

EFT can confirm that, LTTE MBRL operators got wiped out by 58 division during last 24 hours. This comes as a huge blow to terrorists that last remaining MBRL’s won’t be available to be used by LTTE artillery division. While water is boiling, Sri Lanka president has left to Jordon this morning for 3 day visit. As mentioned in our previous article, the president won’t be able to discuss the security issues during the visit.

Human Wrongs !

Meanwhile, Human Rights organisation (should we say “Human wrongs”!) has requested to delay the IMF loan for Sri Lanka (see hrw.org). UN Security Council in its first formal session on Sri Lanka, condemned the LTTE for its acts of terrorism and recognised Sri Lanka's right to fight against terror.

Updated @ 09:55 BST

  • 1000s queuing up to leave the NFZ and we can expect an exodus.
  • 3 unicorns and 2 more suicide boats were captured yesterday evening by 53 division. Due to SLA's uninterrupted offensive and the heat wave the LTTE are running leaving behind their weapons. The LTTE is finding it difficult to sustain the defensive operation against the SLA as the Army maintains the freshness required in the troops due to the abundance of man power in reserve. This has resulted in 1000s of civilians queuing up to leave the NFZ.
Updated @ 11:12 BST

59 recuing civilians via a cable through Nanthikadal lagoon. Due to LTTE shooting some civilians got killed, but heaps are still making the use of the cable.

Cornered tigers throw in everything and the kitchen sink

The LTTE on its last legs are launching wave after wave of counter attacks to regain lost territory. However, all of these futile attacks have been successfully repulsed and the tigers have lost over 100 cadres in the last 24 hours of fighting. Intel report suggest that the LTTE is getting their entire Radha units cadres ready for suicide missions against the advancing the SLA.

The GoSL has lifted all restrictions that were preventing the SLA from going in for the final kill, the last three weeks have seen reduced action as the SLA were requested to not to create mayhem. While the army prepares for the very last final push, the President will be heading for an overseas visit to Jordan. The President may not be available for a press conference while he is away. The SLA is expected to go for an all out offensive tonight and will engage in round the clock missions. The idea is to exhaust the LTTE’s hardcore cadres and finish them off. The SLAF may increase their CAS missions using MI 24/35s, while SLN SBS is already playing a major part. There are some reports coming in that Farah 2 has some snipers as well as mounted artillery.

Meanwhile, the 57th division has uncovered air craft wheels, pilot uniforms, cockpit accessories, a propeller, light aircraft engine and wings during routine clearing missions in Thevipuram. It is not clear what type aircraft these parts belong to.

Sunday Column - watch out LTTE!

LTTE dazed and confused

The fact that Brigadier Prasanna Silva has moved to Mullaitivu is true, however he is not commanding the 59th division. Brigadier Gallage is commanding the 59th division (which is on active defence) and Nandana Udawatte is JOC in Anuradhapura. EFT can reveal Brigadier Prasanna is commanding the 55th division which has relocated to Mullaitivu! The 55th is testing the LTTE defence lines north of Mullaitivu and has already started to breach the Wadduwan Bridge! Oh boy isn’t the LTTE in for a surprise!

Major offensives set to start on Wednesday

The SLA is gearing up for a major push on Wednesday, the plan is for the 57th and TF8 to hold the defence line while the 58th,53th and 55th rapidly pushes forward. EFT does not like to give timelines, but our sources indicate that by next Monday the concept of “Eelam” will be wiped off the face of the earth. All the divisions have been given specific orders to take utmost care when advancing into civilian areas, the SLA is adhering to the strict light arms policy and only using heavy mortars to break the earth bunds. For the final phases, the SLA may use mortars and land based guided missiles in non civilian areas to finish off the LTTE. Both the GoSL and the Indian Government would like to see VP dead, if caught alive it will lead to agitation in Tamil Nadu which is an additional burden India may have to deal with. At the moment, India is the biggest supporter of Sri Lanka’s fight against the LTTE and they have helped us in more ways that one. Political sources believe even a BJP led government may not support the LTTE and their stooges.

The LTTE has started firing artillery today at fleeing civilians as they are again starting to come in large numbers, close to 800 have arrived towards the 53rd defence line. 53rd units are trying to kill off the LTTE cadres who are holding the civilians hostage, how they are doing it, EFT will not reveal.

We have suffered casualties in the past few days due to sniper fire, LTTE snipers at this moment are more effective than our snipers due to their advantageous positions, and we also have landmines, AP mines and booby traps to deal with. A few mid and low level cadres have surrendered in the past few days, they reveal that the civilian militia is guarding the bunds, when they are killed in battle, photos of their dead bodies are taken and published in pro LTTE sources as “civilian deaths” due to “shelling” and “aerial bombardments”. The IC and INGO dogs, and Human Rights vultures are falling for this propaganda hook, line and sinker.

In a startling discovery, troops of the 58th division have uncovered a picture of Vickramabahu Karunaratne receiving a medal from VP during the CFA days.

Sea Tigers make last stand

The Sea Tigers and Black Sea Tigers have been testing the SLN defences with small scale attacks during the last two weeks. Intel believes that VP may try to escape via sea (head south then eastwards) with a massive suicide boat squadron when the battle reaches the end. If VP takes the sea route, he still has to pass four defence lines, two from SLN and two from Indian Navy. The SLAF is not able to destroy these suicide crafts due to the no air raids policy, however, SLAF Mi-24 Gunships are providing CAS to the advancing units. Meanwhile, the Deputy Sea Tiger Leader - Cheliyan has been killed in Karayamullivaikkal two days ago, his death has been confirmed.

Remnants of “TAF”.

Surrendered cadres have revealed that the LTTE possesses a Pilatus PC-7 and a Robinson’s chopper (both revealed by EFT earlier), these are hidden in the NFZ. The LTTE does not have a Jet Ranger contrary to media sources. There is a possibility that VP may use either the chopper or the PC-7 to escape, the possibility is very low as the SLN are patrolling the eastern waters and all units are equipped with SA-16 MANPADs, the chopper and PC-7 are easy targets for SAMs.

Await a political update shorty.

Counter protest in Parliament Square

(Saturday 9th May)

We thank all Patriots who contacted us after our story dated 4th May. From the evidence you have provided, it is quite obvious that this protest was started up by a banned organisation, at a prohibited location displaying illegal paraphernalia, and to cap it all, the main attraction was an illegal immigrant threatening to commit suicide!

Our UK correspondent has informed us that the pro LTTE protesters have been given special permission to continue demonstrating without displaying illegal paraphernalia, but with some specific restraints. We understand the UK Parliament group “Friends of Sri Lankan LTTE” campaigned heavily on behalf of the terrorists for this permission. Other contributing factors are the Metropolitan Police sensitivity after the G20 protests, the sheer number of demonstrations in support of the LTTE, protestors using women and children as human shield, and the UK government’s displeasure with SL after loosing face over the Des Brown affair.

After taking into consideration all the above facts we advise Sri Lankan patriots not to go ahead with tomorrow’s protest.

Why have a counter protest on a patch of grass in Westminster, when you will be soon CELEBRATING throughout the world!?

On your mark, get set for SLA Cont. !

EFT can reveal that Rekthavaikkal is fully not under SLA control, however SLA expects to take full control and clear the area by end of today. Rekthavaikkal foiled the last hope of the LTTE to flee to the jungle. Only escape route for LTTE now, by sea or land in the rear of 55, or breaking the 59 strong defence line.

Meanwhile chemical drums have been found in a sandy area of the NFZ. These chemical have been sent to labs for identification purposes. Full report will be made public soon. EFT sources indicate that these chemicals were to be used by the LTTE against the advancing SLA.

The remaining area is almost a no go area for SLA troops during day time due to heavy weapons fire from the depleted tigers. Therefore most of the missions are conducted during late night and into the early hours thus avoiding heavy weapon fire and LTTE snipers.

SLA expects to rescue over 10,000 civilians during next few days. EFT can reveal that LTTE naval fire power is still strong, SLN is fighting on a daily basis with the sea tigers and are preventing them from fleeing. (Keep up the good work Navy!).

59 is concentrating more on defensive than becoming offensive, but positioned to break in at any given time as requirement arise.
Currently there are no gaps in NFZ / Sea routes. Therefore SLA might prefer to keep the 59 division in active defence mode with out letting terror leaders to flee.

SLA has found out the truth about the captured iron rack, which the media were told was a tunnel. Due to obvious reasons, EFT cannot reveal more at this point.

While War continues, SL Government has sent another shipement of food and medicinet for NFZ based civilians, via ICRC.

Finally, for the international community, USA has proven how easy accident can happen when dealing with terrorists.

Tuesday, 5 May 2009

On your mark, get set for SLA!

Wadduvakal Bridge which the 59th need to cross if they are to capture Vellamullivaikkal (V’vaikkal) is heavily booby trapped. Brig, Prasanna Silva and Co. may execute an amphibious landing using the Nanthi Kandal lagoon to secure V’vaikkal. However, the bridge is sitting over a narrow strip of land, hence the 59th may not need to use a risky amphibious manoeuvre. Commando and Special Forces elements attached to the 59th did use amphibious manoeuvres to secure Mulla town, hence they have the experience in this area if the need arises. Brig. Prassanna is a known expert in amphibious operations, and has proven his expertise when the 55th crossed the Chundikulam lagoon to launch surprise attacks.

Prasanna’s move to 59 has puzzled the remaining LTTE terrorists. The LTTE is in a dilemma as they don’t know which SLA division will progress to V’vaikkal, it could be the 58th from Rethavaikkal (R’vaikkal) or the 59th from Mullaitivu.

The R’vaikkal junction is expected to fall to into SLA hands during next 24 hours, at the moment the SLA is still in southern edge of R’vaikkal. (EFT has revealed the importance of this junction on 1st of May). The 58th is expected to speed up the progress once 53 captures A35 near the R’vaikkal junction while moving nicely along Karayamullivaikkal (K’vaikkal).

It’s been a while since SL Navy SBS units had some fun. EFT believes SBS units will support SLA routinely during next couple of weeks. STF is busy with cleaning small pockets.

During next few days SLA will be in the process of positioning them selves while foreign media is getting ready to see first hand information.

When Indian general election reaches Tamil Nadu, SLA should start the fireworks with Navy support. (Let’s start the count down)

So it’s all get set days!!

Sri Lanka Navy to the rescue

All hail the Navy!

The Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) is currently engaged in heavy battles with LTTE terrorists almost on a daily basis. The depleted sea tigers are trying to punch holes in the naval cordon to get the LTTE supremo and other high profile leaders out of the NFZ. So far, the SLN has been able to repulse all sea tiger attacks and have not allowed the sea tigers to breach the naval cordons. Contrary to LTTE propaganda the sea tigers have not been able to inflict any damage to the SLN Dvora fleet. The Sri Lankan Navy is expected to carry out more offensive missions throughout the month of May. EFT sources indicate that Charles Anthony who was injured in battle tried to escape via the sea route, however this effort ended up in failure due to the timely interception by the SLN who opened fire on his flotilla, Charles Anthony had to retreat back into the NFZ with his tail between his legs.

Meanwhile LTTE built submarines which were found by Sri Lankan forces recently do not have the adequate range to slip past the naval cordons and into the high seas. Appearances can be deceptive, although they may look like submarines, they are in fact semi - submersible and cannot reach depths of more than 2 meters, they are modeled according to leisure submersibles used by the tourist industry for marine observation cruises. They are in no way combat ready or sturdy enough to withstand the rough seas, Intel believes some sea tigers may have even died experimenting with these contraptions in the eastern shores.

In public the Indian establishment is making gestures that pander to their Tamil Nadu voter base, behind closed doors they are carrying out joint effort with the GoSL to wipe out LTTE terrorism. The Indian military is lending its full support by sharing surveillance information. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard are also patrolling the eastern seas to prevent any LTTE from escaping.

More High Profiles head towards the confession bench

EFT can exclusively report that there are very high profile LTTE leaders are now in SLA custody. Due to security reasons, we will avoid publishing these names and will let Government sources to reveal them in due course. The surrendered leaders just cannot stop talking, some have revealed interesting details about the LTTE overseas network. The GoSL is committed to taking the fight to the diaspora once local operations are complete, they will leave no stone unturned in hunting down overseas LTTE members and dismantling the fund raising structure.

SLA committed to zero civilian casualty policy

Due to sustained resistance from remaining LTTE members, land mines and NO heavy weapons strategy, the SLA is moving slowly into the remaining NFZ area. SF and Commando offensive missions are limited and the infantry is leading the fight. However, LRRP have infiltrated all areas of the NFZ and are achieving their objectives. The 58th is proceeding with caution into Vellamullivaikkal, there are still three more earth bunds to breach till they come close to VP’s hiding area. We still don’t have control over Rekthavaikkal junction, a hotbed of LTTE activity. Rekthavaikkal is north of Vellamullivaikkal, the junction is where A35 meets the coastal road, i.e., the Rekthavaikkal center. The road turns left towards Chalai, right turn leads to Mullaitivu town.

The 57th is engaged in clearing operations in PTK area. They are digging up mines and looking for LTTE warehouses. Since the 58th moved swiftly across PTK, they did not clear the area of buried weapons and mines, the 57th has picked up this task. In effect, the 57th is the second line of defense, they are also on the lookout for infiltrators. PTK east runs up to Ampavanpokkanai, that area is cleared, however, a pocket of resistance remains between the 53rd and 58th, hence they have not been able to link up fully due to heavy resistance, booby traps, anti tank and AP mines. TF8 has gone back to defensive mode as they achieved their objectives.

59th is maintaining an active defense and makes the occasional foray into uncleared territory as reported earlier, however, the extent of these incursions are limited and they fall back to their original positions after softening the LTTE defenses.

Rumors about VP’s death are false

Few days ago there was intense speculation that VP may have died, however, EFT can reliably confirm that he is still alive and hiding in the Vellamullivaikkal area. The fact that he is living in the main reason why the LTTE is putting up a fight, had he died the whole organization would have wilted and withered away. One of the main reasons that INGO dogs are not being allowed into the NFZ zone is that there is a realistic possibility that these mangy strays would try to help VP escape. Recent overtures by the Foreign Ministers of Britain and France indicate that they are willing to give a lifeline to the terrorists, they do not want to see this problem resolved as the end of our terrorist problem would mean an end to the virtual slavery we are living under, however, they have no qualms on invading sovereign countries like Iraq and Afghanistan on dubious claims and blowing up atolls in the Pacific with nuclear bombs, double standards galore!
As noticed recently, there is a lot of international pressure coming towards SLDF due to misleading information related to Air Strikes in the NFZ, EFT can confirm there were no air strikes in NFZ during the last few days. We appeal to all readers not to fall in with current LTTE propaganda machines that have been creating these stories.

IMF to sign off the loan

GoSL is fully confident that the requested IMF loan will be approved. Negotiations are currently underway and should finalise very soon.

EFT Plea - Warning over Swine flu

During last 24 hours, UN's World Health Organization has raised the alert over Swine flu to level five.
The Swine Flu outbreak has so far claimed 159 lives in Mexico, and started to spread all over the world rapidly.

Since incoming foreign nationals to Sri Lanka easily can be Swine flu carriers, EFT strongly plea, Sri Lankan government to possibly double check or delay the foreign nationals entering NFZ or Civilian camps to safeguard the innocent civilians / Sri Lankan forces from unwanted health issues.

End Game Nears

************************************************
Update 11:00 GMT Tue 28th April 2009

Following a meeting with Labour party MP for Ealing, West London, the LTTE flags which have been flying shamelessly in Parliament Square have been taken down as of yesterday.

According to information provided by those who were present at the meeting, Stephen Pound (MP) "learnt a more credible side to the story". He was "delighted to see the whole spectrum of ethnic communities of Sri Lanka" represented at the meeting speaking with one voice the truth surrounding the terrorist problem. There have been Sinhalese, Tamil, Burgher, Muslim, Sinhalese/Tamil mixed, Sinhalese/Tamil inter-married, white British and even a Sri Lankan Jewess at the meeting. He was particularly impressed with two Sinhalese/Tamil mixed children who accompanied their parents to the meeting. Mr Pound made references to the orderly, well behaved and decent manner in which the forum progressed. He admitted to have now been “heard with both ears”.

More information about this meeting will follow as and when made available to us.

Government suspends conventional operations

The GoSL has made an announcement via the MOD that conventional operations are over, conventional operations refer to infantry push backed by mechanised armour, artillery support, HMG fire and CAS. We can assure our readers that the cessation of conventional operations does not equal to a cessation of non conventional operations such as SF and LRRP missions. We expect the Government to make an announcement later on Tuesday or Wednesday justifying the end of routine combat operations, it will be good news for all.

What we can say for now is that SF teams have started a major push today. VP is said to be hiding in the Karayamullivaikkal area. Intel expect more and more cadres (including hardcore cadres and leaders) to surrender the closer Special Forces get to VP's location. Already 50 cadres have surrendered, what you read about and saw on TV is only the tip of the iceberg - there are many more senior leaders and hardcore cadres who have surrendered, publicity is not being given in order to protect their identities. VP is said to be changing his location from time to time as he knows that those who flee willingly provide information on his whereabouts. The remaining cadres are fighting back with light arms only, most of their heavy weapons have been captured and they have run out of ammo for the remaining heavy weapons.

The GoSL is bent on capturing or killing VP, that objective has not changed and will not change no matter what the international community or political jokers in Tamil Nadu say or do.

The SBS of the SLN is the SLA equivalent of SF and Commandos. They are the best in the Navy, they have joined in the operations. Some Naval equipment are being moved towards the South East so that we can safe guard the sea area. We have captured one of the main radar centres belonging to LTTE.

We cannot divulge any more information, rumour mills are flowing and speculation is rife, some maybe proven correct....

Sunday Column - Government rejects LTTE's unilateral ceasefire

Cornered Tigers want a respite

The REMAINING Tigers are holed up in a small bushy area in a corner of Vellamullivaikkal. Knowing full well that they are close to being eliminated, they have declared a unilateral ceasefire to give themselves a chance to flee either to the Mullaitivu jungles or out of Sri Lanka. They are also attempting to fool the world into thinking that they are concerned for the "plight" of civilians. They are specifically trying to show off to the UN official John Holmes who is currently in Sri Lanka that the LTTE has a human side. However, they are oblivious to the fact that the whole world has been shown footage of them firing at civilians. As soon as the Tigers declared their ceasefire through their TINA outlet - Tamilnet, the Government immeadiately rejected it through an announcement made by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Current estimates put the Tiger strength at around 200 hardcore cadres and around 2,000 civilian militia, a human shield numbering about 15,000 surrounds them. However, these 15,000 civilians are willingly staying with the LTTE, the shield consists of Mahaveer families who are die-hard LTTE supporters. Mahaveer or not, these are civilians and hence the SLA is proceeding with caution into the remaining NFZ area. If we attack the NFZ without the concern for civilian casualties, the operations may come to an abrupt end due to severe international pressure, hence the current low intensity battles is just right. The Mahaveer families are misguided and brainwashed souls, they are hoping for a BJP victory in the Indian Polls. They believe a BJP led government would militarily intervene in Sri Lanka and give them Eelam, the fat and old former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister cum retired melodramatic B movie actress Jayalalitha Jayaram has made statements to this effect. The decrepit and senile current Chief Minister Karunanidhi has also made statements in support of the LTTE. Both statements are seen as vote grabbing ploys. Delhi has dismissed the statements made by these two political jokers. Delhi is keen not to see dangerous precedents set, if this continues they might have politicians making statements in support of Al Qaeda and Taleban to curry favour with sections of the Muslim voter base, moves which will upset the BPO partners and hardline Hindu nationalists.

The Indians conclude their show of face trip

India's Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan have concluded a visit to the Island. The objective of their surprise visit was shrouded in msytery and the MOD maintains a veil of secrecy around the outcomes. However, we can set minds of our readers at ease by stating that the visit was NOT intended to request the GoSL to stop ongoing operations. The Indians did request a media blackout on ongoing operations so as not to upset the vast uneducated Tamil Nadu voter base. Therefore, there have been tremendous successes in the battle front which EFT cannot reveal. Secretly, the Indians want the LTTE to perish, the Congress led Government has no sympathy with the LTTE.

To satifsy the Sri Lankan voter base, the MOD has revealed the capture of Valayarmadam and thrwating of a Sea Tiger attack, SLAF operations are getting zero publicity. There is a lot more going on! Just be patient.

The Indians are at it again

Political posturing by the Congress led Indian Government is at an all time high. Two months ago, the Indians issued statements and provided material support to the GoSL which led the whole world to believe that the Indians (or at least the majority of them) are fully behind Sri Lanka’s war on terror. Secretly, the Congress Kingmakers (Sonia Gandhi and Co.) are keen to see the LTTE wiped off the face of the earth. However, to keep the coalition Kingmakers happy (Karunanidhi and Co.) in light of the upcoming elections, the Indians have issued statements contradicting their earlier stance. The Indians have requested the GoSL to go easy on the LTTE at least till the elections are over, the calls to give respite to the LTTE are packaged in fake concerns for the “plight” of civilians. Political analysts believe that India has no genuine concern for the civilians' safety and well being, its just a vote grabbing exercise.

Whatever be the case, Indian intervention at this stage will not be welcome. Last time the Indians intervened, it ended in disaster and resulted in more than two decades of further suffering. We almost had VP in Operation Vadamarchchi in 1987, but this was scuttled by inedible rice and curry air drops. France and Britain are also gesturing about possible “humanitarian” intervention – they are all after the untapped uranium, titanium, phosphorous and possible hydrocarbon deposits.

But its not all bad news, we have a saviour in the shape of China. This superpower will ensure that that neither India, France, Britain or the US will violate Sri Lanka’s sovereignty. Furthemore, it will take about two weeks for foreign forces to obtain approval from their respective governments to intervene, by that time the LTTE will be pulverized.

We at EFT strongly believe that foreign governments, including India will not intervene militarily or provide refuge to VP. India especially as they don’t want to have two enemies (Sri Lanka and Pakistan) on their borders along with China breathing down their necks. The socio-economic and geo political landscape has changed dramatically from what it was when the Indians intervened in 1987. Almost all Sri Lankans want the SLDF to crush the Tigers, any attempts by the Colombo politicians to try and curtail the current operations will be frowned upon, thus the UPFA risks losing power if the offensives are stopped. The Indians will also not be forgiven by their own citizens for intervening again, they have vested economic interests in Sri Lanka, the big business (for e.g. Airtel and IOC) don't want Sri Lanka to be destabilised, its all abouy the money!

Defence observers say that the war will be over in about 7 days, fierce fighting is going on, the remaining LTTE held area is heavily mined and booby trapped. VP is cowering behind 15,000 civilians, so the operations are slower than everyone wants them to be and harvesting is difficult. All SLDF resources are focussed on killing or capturing VP and ensuring that he does not flee.

Breaking News @ 10 BST

Daya Master surrended to SLA.
There are few more surrended (Very high ranked with LTTE) with Daya master. Once ready for the public domain will update. So please wait ....

A few days ago we did not expect that many Civilians... Now we did not expect this many LTTE gang to turn up in our door step...

Still not ready for the public domain. We need to welcome those visitors before show their faces to world.

Updated @ 16:20 SL Time
Civillian count reached 100,000.

More details to follow...

###########
The 58th has merged with the 55th. The next stop in the unstoppable march is Valayanmadam, there the 53rd will merge too, and possibly TF8, the merger may happen tonight. Following the merger, we expect all units to march south towards VP’s bovine abode in Vellamullivaikkal. The 59th will not join the party, they will hold their defensive positions. The 59th is defending a difficult narrow front, it’s the Mullaitivu equivalent of the Jaffna MKN axis. We also expect the SBS to join in the action and support the SLA. Offensive naval manoeuvres are all set to go tomorrow. SLAF will provide CAS but may not engage in bombing missions due to the civilian factor. However, they did carry out pin point strikes yesterday using their latest arsenal of laser guided munitions. Its all systems go for the SLDF.

SF and LRRP have invaded almost all parts of the NFZ, they are running amok, its literally like a scene from the playground where big bullies are running after wimpy little boys – they are thoroughly enjoying the challenge, this is what they were waiting for.

There is some intense speculation and rumours flying around that Friday will be declared a national holiday in united Sri Lanka, as we don’t yet have any substantiated and credible information, we refuse to add fuel to the fire. BUT there is no smoke without fire, and the smoke smells like BBQ pork.

Breaking News – Jeyam confirmed dead

Intel has just confirmed that top terror leader “Colonel” Jeyam has been killed in action. Yesterday, the SLA killed number of middle rung leaders and hardcore cadres that will get announced later stage. Intel is delaying the release of news about the death of Jeyam to the free media due to the sensitive nature of the current operations, a lot of news is being censored, we only published the above after being given the go ahead. More terror leaders are dead, but the names are not being released. However, MOD has confirmed a top leader is dead without mentioning the name.

About 20,000 civilians are expected to cross over to the liberated areas today. Although credit is given to the 58th infantry, it is the SF, Commando Regiments (attached to the 58th) and LRRP that are doing the hard work. They are leading the way while the infantry units are following them and conducting clear up / mop up operations.

EFT

Closer and closer and closer

VP and top leaders hiding in Vellamullivaikkal

Military intelligence reports suggest that VP and the remaining leaders are hiding in the southern edge of the NFZ strip in a place called “Vellamullivaikkal”. Vellamullivaikal is close to the 59th division FDL, to the west of this hamlet is the lagoon and to the east is the Indian Ocean. In all other fronts the SLA has the option of moving in from the west at any time, but the scenario in the top tiger den is different. The lagoon near Vellamullivaikkal is very deep, the LTTE is fiercely defending this front and the areas are heavily mined, hence the 59th has not launched a full frontal attack on this area. However, 8 man teams are operating ahead of the 59th division FDL in order to soften up the defences. Barring a full frontal assault by the 59th that is considered high risk, the options left to the SLA are to attack Vellamullivaikal via the A35 (which may also come at a high price) or launch a sea borne attack with the support of the SLN.

60,000 civilians rescued from the tiger claws

Yesterday, the SLA’s 58th broke through the ditch cum bund bordering the east of the NFZ, resistance from the LTTE was less than expected as the SLA took them on by surprise. They were expecting the 53rd and TF8 to move in on them, but it was the 58th that surprisingly broke through. Casualties to the SLA were very low in yesterday’s fighting.

Another reason for the lower resistance was that the majority of the hardcore cadres and their leaders perished in the battles east of PTK. We were lucky in PTK east as we managed to box them in while they were preparing for a major counter attack, luck has run out for the LTTE and they made the pivotal mistake of putting all their eggs in one basket (what were they thinking!). Conservatives estimates suggest that the LTTE has around 100 hardcore cadres remaining and around 2,000 civilian militia and forcible recruits.

Around 80 infantry went MIA yesterday, after being out of touch for close to 12 hours, all of them have rejoined the main units.

GoSL trying to cope with mass exodus

Soldiers and civil servants are working round the clock to cope with the mass influx of civilians. Although the SLA were preparing for this exodus for quite some time, they were expecting around 10,000 to turn up per day, they never expected 60,000 in one day alone! There is two step registration process in place for the civilians - once when they reach the SLA and once when they reach the civil service administered welfare camps in Vavuniya. In what is reminiscent of the Berlin airlift, the SLAF has been in action and airlifted medical staff, food and emergency supplies to Mullaitivu. The SLAF is in the thick of the action.

The deadline for the LTTE to surrender has expired, 1,2,3…..!

Sunday Column - SLA makes steady progress to free hostages

Beginning of the end

The fate of LTTE as a military force has been sealed i.e., it has no fate. The SLA has been commended both locally and internationally for militarily finishing off what the FBI branded as "The World's most ruthless terrorist outfit ". Al - Qaeda launched suicide attacks on the New York Twin Towers that killed over 3,000 people, for the FBI to rank the LTTE above their public enemy number 1 means something, it means more as the SLA has finished off the LTTE while the NATO coalition forces are still fighting Al - Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Sri Lankan public over the years were apathetic to SLA offensives to liberate the Wanni, Jayasikuru being the prime example - life went on as normal in the South while the SLA were marching up the A9. The public were convinced that the LTTE were invincible as any SLA victories were soon reversed. What lacked then was the political will to back the military - major offensives were routinely halted whenever the SLA sufferred setbacks, "tactical withdrawls" and "readjustments on the FDLs" were the norms. Such was the extent of the withdrawls and readjustments that the SLA gave up Pooneryn, EPS and Mullaitivu complexes to the orders of the political leaders. The political leaders didn't have the backbone to back the military as they were afraid of loosing the voters who were insisting that the Army stop offensives to save lives. Presumably, the public had only heard of wars where there are no casualties. The sight of ambulances and buses carrying the dead and wounded on Dambulla road was enough to convince them that the war should stop as the LTTE were indomitable.

That was then, this is now - the political and military landscape has dramatically changed FOR THE BETTER. We have a President who fully backs the military, an Army Commander who is steadfast, and a public fully behind the President and the military in wiping off terror ONCE AND FOR ALL. The President does not pander to the international community either, he backs the military push knowing full well that it will upset the donor buddies and white uncles. He even challenged the UN to exert pressure on the LTTE to stop offensives rather than asking the government to implement a longer ceasefire, the UN and the international community is lost on the fact that the LTTE has used previous ceasefires to re-group, re-arm and launch even more attacks. It also does not occur to them that it is the LTTE that is prolonging the conflict by holding civilians and not the SLA. We applaud the military and the political establishment in seeing through the strategy to wipe out terror.

Fresh offensives under way

The SLA started fresh offensives to free civilian hostages 48 hours ago. The 53rd, TF8 and 58th have launched a three pronged attack on the A35 Paranthan - Mullaitivu main road, 53rd and TF8 are nearing the bridge at Vellaimullaivaikkal, 58th is facing stiff resistance on their front. We are seeing heavy casualties as the LTTE has a small area to defend and fire is concentrated. Tiger FDLs are heavily booby trapped and mined and most of the injuries are due to AP mines. 55th are holding their positions just north of Palamattalan and conducting limited 8 man team operations, snipers are also taking out targets. The Navy is on full alert over Tiger leaders trying to flee, night time sea tiger escape missions have been effectively foiled by the Navy's SBS and RABS squadrons. The SLAF is providing CAS and surveillance assistance to the SLA, the aerial pictures and videos are proving invaluable as the SLAF and SLA are able to strike at identified targets. Surveillance is much easier now as the Tiger territory has shrunk to 17 sq kms. The MOD has stopped giving publicity to SLAF missions, reasons for which are undisclosed. Only a limited amount of battlefield news is reaching us as the current missions are extra secretive.

Soldiers sacrifice their lives and limbs in final push to rescue civilian hostages

(By EFT – Vanni Correspondent)
Bloody battles

Yesterday, the SLA’s 53rd and TF8 suffered heavy casualties mainly due to booby traps while trying to push through the Tiger FDL bordering the NFZ, around 50 infantrymen lost their legs - KIA figure is undisclosed. This was one of the bloodiest days in recent battles. The 58th is positioned to break through the NFZ FDL any time now.

President makes morale boosting visit to Kilinochchi

The GoSL President, Mahinda Rajapakse announced that he is fully behind the SLDFs objectives in wiping out terror. The announcement made during his visit to the former de-facto capital of the LTTE is seen as a morale boost to the SLA high rankers and foot soldiers before the final push into the non liberated territories. The President has promised to deal with international pressure until the tri-forces complete their ongoing mission of rescuing civilians forcibly held by the LTTE.

UN Special Envoy arrives in Sri Lanka

An United Nations Special Enjoy appointed by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon arrived yesterday and is expected to meet the President today. The Special Envoy met the Defence Secretary yesterday. EFT does not want to speculate on the purpose of the visit but unverified information suggests that it has something to do with an UN role in supervising the welfare of the Wanni IDPs.

Back to BAU

Not that business was ever not as usual, the New Year celebrations were a breather and an opportunity for the SLDF to celebrate their victories thus far (and of course to indulge in a bit of morale boosting activities in a modest way at this festive time). The 48 hour ceasefire is considered to be a reasonable compromise under the circumstances and it did appease some international pressure mongers. The political and military leadership are working together to work out optimum and timely strategies taking into careful consideration both military and political criteria inherent in conflicts of this nature. They are keen to address issues raised in all arenas (military, political, financial, economical, etc.) of this continuing humanitarian/military operation.

New joint ops are being carried out between the three armed forces (SLA, SLN & SLAF) targeting high profile LTTE hideouts in the NFZ. These targets include newly built sand/earth bunds and bunkers. As always, the SLDF are following a strict “Zero civilian casualty” policy.

Sri Lanka Navy is on high alert in order to prevent any top LTTE leaders escaping by sea. There were some heavy sea clashes earlier today (15-Apr) involving two stealth LTTE boats. These were designed and built with a low profile to avoid radar detection. Both craft, which tried to infiltrate to Mulathivu area were destroyed comprehensively by the SLN. Among captured weapons were a SAM and a MPMG. All terrorists onboard two craft were killed in Navy fire. This shows the effectiveness of Navy’s defence lines at sea; well done SLN!

There have been reports of suicide attacks against the infantry units. SLA is on alert and are prepared for more of these as the LTTE are left with no options. Watchful soldiers have already thwarted a few suicide attacks; on occasions individual soldiers sacrificing their lives to save their comrades.

Large amounts of hardware have been found in liberated areas recently (30mm HMG, large catch of T56 guns, hundreds of 60mm & 81mm mortar bombs, etc). These findings will continue and increase as intelligence continues to trickle in. However, SLA believes that the LTTE are stocked up with hardware and ammo for them to last several more months. The main problem for the LTTE is the low morale of their cadre, including some senior ones. With a view to “hit where it hurts” SLA are currently attacking pre identified strong points in NFZ further demoralising the tigers. SLA are expecting many will surrender as the tri-force offensives intensify.

EFT predicts 58 Division to progress towards Ampalavanpokkanai, Task Force 8 to advance along the A35 and Division 53 to press on between Putumattalan and Valayanmadam.

LTTE responds to SLA's Humanitarian Ceasefire

LTTE responds to ceasefire with violence

The LTTE has responded to the SLA's unilateral declaration of a humanitarian ceasefire for the Singhala and Tamil New Year by:
1) Calling it an insult.
2) Hacking to death 8 unarmed and innocent farmers in Buttala.
3) Attempting to breach 53rd's PTK East FDL with the sole aim of slowing the SLA's escape route clearing mission (this attack was soundly repulsed).
4) Vandalising the Sri Lankan embassy in Oslo, Norway.

All the lobbying and protesting by the LTTE in Western capitals was to demand a ceasefire so that the "Genocide" is called off. The Government responded to calls from the International Community (who were pressurised by their substantial Tamil Diaspora voter base) and declared a two day ceasefire. However, what the LTTE did was exactly the opposite of what the International Community (IC) expected of them, i.e., abide by and respect the ceasefire. Once again, the LTTE has shot itself in the foot. Yet again, the GoSL has proven to the IC that the LTTE is not serious about ceasefires, all they wanted to was to re-organise and re-arm, the overseas protesters are accountable for giving the LTTE this chance. Had the LTTE abided by the ceasefire, a civilian exodus from the NFZ would have started, what is currently happening is that only a handful of IDPs are trickling into cleared areas, the LTTE is still keeping them hostage under threats of violence.

The Army Commander has a soft side too

Sources suggest that it took some persuading to convince Major General Sarath Fonseka that a temporary suspension of offensive missions was needed at this juncture to appease the IC, the Army commander after much thought and consulation with this ground commanders agreed to this approach.

Defensive operations proceed with rapid pace, large hauls of arms and ammunition uncovered

The defensive operations have not stopped though. Most of the units in reserve have turned back and are clearing the liberated areas to root out any infiltrators and dig up the buried / hidden arms.

Saradiyel and the comma

The MOD writers with their limited journalistic experience is confusing readers into thinking there are ongoing battles in Vishwamadu and that weapons are being uncovered after these battles, all that is happening is that reserve units are sweeping these areas and uncovering weapons left behind quite a while ago. Some monkey blogs have taken advantage of bad writing by the MOD and are using this oppurtunity to show the dissillusioned diaspora that the LTTE is fighting the SLA in Vishwamadu. Some monkey commentators in these primate blogs are jumping up and down about these non existent battles. It was said that Colonial Era Singhala hero Saradiyel was executed due to a grammatical error by a Singhala Post Office clerk. When the British Governer pardoned Saradiyel, the message to the executioner was miscommunicated as there was a missing comma - the message should have read "Saradiyel maranna epaa, beranna", however the post office clerk wrote this as "Saradiyal maranaa, epaa beranna". Hence Saradiyel was put to death by comma. We could not find an equivalent English translation of the post office clerk's message (whose surname was probably Wickramasinghe / Karunayake / Daluwatta), we ask one of our readers to translate this to English, a New Year prize is on offer. We apogolise for going off on a tangent about the finer points of journalism, but the message to the MOD is get it right first time and uppdate the Orbat map regularly!

Happy New Year!

We wish our readers a Happy Tamil and Singhala New Year! May all your aspirations come true in the upcoming year. Certainly peace is on the horizon.

The Sri Lanka Army does not wait and see

While a lot of publicity is being given to 53rd, 55th and 58th counter terror operations, 59th has quietly broken in through the back door. As published before, 59th is just south of Vellamullivaikal, it is possible that the forward elements will launch a full blown offensive any time now. It is raining heavily in Mulla east now, that is normally pre-cursor to a major operation. That is all we can say for now.

Hostage rescue operation underway

The SLA is continuing its mission to rescue civilians trapped in the NFZ with renewed vigour. SLDF morale is at an all time high after routing the LTTE in PTK east. It is an open secret that the 59th crossed the narrow waterway separating the NFZ from the Mullaitivu mainland. The plan is for the 59th division to hold the south of the NFZ (just south of Vellamulivaikkal) and for the 53rd to cut off the north east of Nanthikandal lagoon which would bring the entire lagoon (barring the borders of the NFZ) under SLA's yoke. The regular units would then continue working on clearing safe passages for the civilians to escape. We will not comment on ongoing SF/LRRP operations.

The LTTE's Czech built T-55 MBT that was attacked and put out of action by the SLA's 58th division has been repaired by the Mech. Brigade engineers. Test firing will take place shortly, the plan is to induct this tank into battle and fire back at the LTTE with their own tank. Jolly good show we say!

Meanwhile there is no sign of the remnants of the Ratha regiment "DPU" cadres that infiltrated during the early part of March. Intel believes that they have abandoned their weapons and mingled with the civilians.
